PSA: Listen To Your Body!

Show of hands: how many of you listen to your body? Uh-huh. Same here. Over the years I have been a pretty stubborn person when it comes to going to the doctor. I’m not talking about physicals and womanly checkups and such. Those I do, no problem. What I mean is, when something out-of-the-ordinary comes up, I typically dig my heels in for as long as possible (Queen of Denial) rather than call my doctor. Fear No More...at least of flying

I am on the biggest high of my life right now and it is all due to conquering a fear.  This was not just any fear for me, it was a phobia of flying that I have had for 20 years.  I was able to fly for the first time without any medication or alcohol in my system.  I did this on prayer and my belief that my higher power, God, is in charge and he will keep me safe.  With that being said, there are other even bigger things that I accomplished all related to getting onto an airplane.  I was able to fit into just ONE seat this time, was able to buckle into said seat with...more

Can You Breastfeed and Train for Marathons?

Maintaining my milk supply is a struggle, but one that is manageable. I know that after a weekend of hard, long training or racing that I will see a drop in my supply in the days immediately following. The human body is amazing, but expecting it to produce the same amount of milk after a 6 hour bike ride, 4,000 yard swim, and 22 mile run (over the course of 2 days) is pushing it. Shh, Little Voice!

This weekend I have the great fortune to be spending some girl time in Palm Springs with some of my brilliant and fabulous friends. We’re going to lounge around a pool in 90 degree weather, drink cocktails, and read trashy novels. Sounds great, right?  I am so excited!That is…until I think about spending most of that time hanging around a pool in my bathing suit. That skimpy piece of clothing that took way too many hours of my life to find. That tiny garment that requires I contort myself to shave in all the necessary places.  Ugh. Are you kidding me?...more
