Pinhole Photography - An Explanation and Guide

[Editor's Note: A pinhole camera is basically a very simple camera with a small hole (aperture). You can make your own pinhole camera in almost any type of enclosed space. The exposures are usually very long and the end results typically have that look of being shot through gauze. I know all this and more from reading a great post about pinhole photography on Art and Lemons. Blogger Nikki Gardner walks you through using your iPhone, DSLR or SLR camera as a pinhole camera. Tons of great information and helpful links. - Jen]...more

Capturing & Creating Memories with Canon

Canon graciously sent me the new Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS & I knew the perfect moment to capture – Halloween 2011 in full color. We carved pumpkins & watered mums & spread fake spiderwebbing & purchased a Captain America costume, all to create a memory that would last forever on film. But. Life got in the way....more

Guess who got a new camera?! ME!

Well friends. I am a point-and-shoot kinda girl. It's not that I don't want to know how to take phenomenal pictures, it's that I don't have the time to learn, or really try... This all changed when I got the new Canon ELPH 300 HS. I LOVE it. It is the world's thinnest digital camera, with an ultra-wide angle lens and a 5x optical zoom. Also shoots HD video. HELLO hair tutorials, here we come!...more

Double Take: Our Second Shot

When Canon and BlogHer asked if I'd like the chance to retake a less-than-awesome photo of a special occasion, what else could I say? Do-over, PLEASE AND THANK YOU... It also helped that we had the HS System technology of the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS, which did a fine job capturing detail in the dim light of our T.V. room without a glaring flash. It also had a ton of features that made the photo easier to take in general....more

One Of My Most Favorite Things To Do

I have to say I am totally and completely impressed with this Canon. Having been a loyal Canon PowerShot user for a few years now, I’ve always loved the durability these cameras have and that they are super easy to plop into my purse and take a quick photo here and there. If you have read this blog for any length of time, you probably have realized that I am a chronic oversharer, so being able to easily take photos of everything is the secret to a happy life (now you know)....more

Canon Gives You A Second Shot

Bossy knows the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS point-and-shoot contains little camera fairies because Bossy didn’t mess with any of her settings and yet the camera still produced photos of Bossy’s dark apartment that, when emailed to Bossy’s son, prompted him to respond, and Bossy quotes, “Looks really bright, fun!”...more

Truth: I’m a person who likes to take pictures.

I care about taking good quality photos (I did get an A+ in my college photo journalism class when we still used film, thankyouverymuch) and amateur photog pet peeves range from blurring, slow shutter speeds, lack of lens options, and shadowing effects thanks to difficult lighting. Recently Canon asked me to review its Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS camera, which has a low-light HS SYSTEM. Here is what I like....more

Taking My Second Shot with the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS

The HS low-light setting is amazing. I’m not sure that “wizardry” is a technical term, but that’s what it felt like as I was shooting away without any flash needed. I could tell in the viewfinder that the camera was sensing my son’s face and adjusting according to the lighting, even as he splashed and squirmed despite my animal noises and repeated pleading to look at mommy, look at mommy. It was as if the camera moved with him and I didn’t need to change the settings to keep up with this bubbly kid....more

I love photography. It is a passion of mine.

Oh, this camera. I absolutely love it. It's compact, lightweight, but make no mistake about it. This little camera is packed with powerful features. The most impressive feature by far is the HS system. The HS system is technology that helps the camera take better photos in low light situations. It also takes amazing videos (1080p HD.) I recorded some video of my daughter over the weekend and was totally impressed with the quality....more
