Have you heard about the bats in Austin? They live under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, and just as Ann Richards was a force of nature, so are these bats! It's estimated that there are 750,000 to 1.5 million bats at the height of "bat season." Nope, I didn't know there was a bat season either! But that's when we'll be in Austin for BlogHer Food '13.
Around sunset, these bats take off to go get their food (insects, yum!) and with all of them in flight, it looks like a black cloud emerging from the bridge.

This week's BlogHer Food '13 speaker interview revolves around the world of video. I asked the speakers from the Video Bootcamp #1: Equipment and Gear panel this question:
Other than a video camera of some sort, what’s one piece of gear that you suggest to anyone looking to get into video for their blogs?...more
Here's another chance to explore Austin's cuisine -- this time on a taco tour near our hotel for BlogHer Food '13. This is our fourth no-host excursion that will take place on Friday, June 7 after our reception and it will be led by Wendi Aarons, also known as one of the Mouthy Housewives, who lives in Austin....more
Why the do-si-do? Well, the fact that BlogHer Food ’13 is less than two months away kind of makes me want to clap my hands and swing my partner ‘round and ‘round. The speakers! The sessions! The FOOD! The Austin weirdness of it all!
You say you’ve already purchased a ticket and can no longer attend? We’re sorry we’ll miss you!
With just seven weeks until BlogHer Food '13 messes with Texas, the excitement is growing with each and every conference announcement! Your BlogHer Food '13 speakers are almost all up on the site (and are being added to our Pinterest boards and Twitter lists daily), the excursions for Friday and Saturday are rolling out (from taco trucks to bat spotting!), and today we'd like to unveil the first of this year's keynote presentations....more
Welcome to our weekly conference update.

This week's BlogHer Food '13 speaker interview made my tummy grumble. As much as I love all of the sprinkles and sugar on food blogs, I love a good, healthy recipe. Our speakers for the Ooey, Gooey, Gorgeous and Healthy Food Photography panel know a thing or two about healthy recipes -- and how to make them look their best. I thought I'd ask them to show us a photo and share a recipe with this question:
Please share with us one example from your work in which you have taken some *boring,* healthy food and made it look fantastic. Explain to our readers how you achieved that look....more
This week's BlogHer Food '13 interview brings us three fantastic ladies who know a thing or two about food and storytelling. Our panelists from the Telling Community Story and History Through Food session are sure to inspire you to pass your bits of culture and history through your food writing as well. I asked them:
Would you please share a quick story about how you are passing down your culture through your food blog? (You may link to a previous post with a quick blurb about why you love it so.)...more
