It's less than a week to St. Patrick's Day, a holiday celebrated in Ireland and around the world to recognize the patron saint of Ireland. In the U.S., many people cook special dishes for St. Patrick's Day, believing that they're serving Irish foods. The truth is, unless you have Irish ancestors who've passed along authentic Irish recipes, the foods most of us eat to celebrate St. Patrick's Day are not that similar to these dishes as they're made in Ireland.

Say hello to Deseree, a 20-something food blogger from Seattle who "cooks and eats" and relies on her talented husband to "shoot and eat" for her food blog celebrating the "food of the gods."

Say hello to Dara Michalski, she's a Canuck (that is to say, she's a Canadian) and she's a cook. That's makes her the Cookin' Canuck. I think you'll love her food blog!

It was back in 2008 when I first spotted kale chips on a food blog, and before I barely had time to think about it, variations of roasted kale chips were popping up on food blogs everywhere. Now literally hundreds of food bloggers have made kale chips and posted about how tasty they are -- so if you haven't joined the kale chip fan club yet, there are plenty of good reasons you should try them.

A new study has found that a diet high in fat (specifically trans fat) increases a woman's risk of stroke.  We already know that high-fat diets increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers -- just to name a few.  But this new study looked specifically at women over 50 and found that women who ate the most trans fat had a 30 percent greater risk for stroke.

"I have a friend who doesn't think much of Meyer lemons. He doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. For this I'm going to forgive him. It doesn't matter that he has a James Beard Award; we all have our blind spots. I personally don't understand how anyone could ever like liver, and I don't understand how anyone could not appreciate the sweet-tart flavor with mysterious, floral subnotes of a Meyer lemon." ~ So writes Tea Austen from the food blog Tea & Cookies.

Editor's note: Rose Gray, self-taught chef and co-founder of London's influential Northern Italian River Cafe, died Sunday of breast cancer.

Although I probably watch entirely too much television, I don't really have any shows that I Absolutely Cannot Miss. (My fingers are crossed behind my back right now, because I sort of can't miss Days of Our Lives or The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I justify my viewing of these shows in the following manner: In my mind, the average age of a Days of Our Lives fan is 60. Secret Life fan? 20. At (nearly) 40, I am The MEAN!

My Favorite Holiday is Pig Day

When you ask someone what their favorite holiday is, you expect to hear answers like "My birthday" or "Christmas!" or even "Halloween" but if you ask me what my favorite holiday is, I'll say loudly (and proudly) Pig Day! Today, March 1, is Pig Day. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to celebrate properly. I've been so busy that I've already told my team that I'm taking the day off next year. How would I have celebrated if I wasn't so darn busy? That's easy!

Incorporated into cocktails, or simply mixed with soda, seltzer or sparkling water for a refreshing non-alcoholic libation, simple syrup is an easy way to add sweetness and flavor to beverages. It's an easy, affordable ingredient to make and keep on hand, and can be used for more than just drinks.

Last year I went to Africa for vacation, in the Zulu region of South Africa. When I returned I didn't really have much to say. I feared any word...
