American Ramadan Day Six: 29 Days of Fasting, Jesus and New Year

So I wanted to blog about my trip to the grocery store but instead find myself responding to a post on Facebook about this girl, Nujood Ali, the Yemeni child bride married off at the age of 10 to a man who beat and raped her. ...more

Did You Celebrate Women's Equality Day?

Yesterday, August 26, was Women's Equality Day. (It also was my non-blogging friend's birthday, so a big shout out to Dr. P, who probably spent the day operating, as she is a surgeon. Which is a good way, I think, to celebrate women's equality, but as usual I digress.) RosieRed23 at Spare Candy explains that: ...more

Leader's Moment of Decision Led to Women's Equality Day

Leaders make decisions every day, but some days are more significant than others. Those are the days on which we face moments of decision at the moral crossroads. One such crossroads was the reason we celebrate August 26 as Women's Equality Day. ...more

Pick up the Sunday NYT Magazine: It's All About Empowering, Funding & Educating Women

Even though I've had to cut back on a lot of my donations this year, I've continued to sponsor a woman survivor of war each month through Women for Women International. Watch The Girl Effect video to see why (it's only 2 minutes 23 seconds long). ...more

Is Faking an Orgasm Anti-Feminist?

There's a lot going on in my life these days. My apartment is a mess due to renovations that I am convinced will never end; I need a job; I didn't use my time as an unemployed person to write a best-selling book; I don't understand why Americans hate it when people want basic rights and let themselves be co-opted by special interest groups; I feel like I can't read a newspaper without wanting to poke my eyes out (or run away and live as a hermit in a cave); etc., etc. Usually, when I am frustrated, I become completely preoccupied with whatever is stressing me out, and it permeates all areas of my life. However, I've been surprised to find that my libido declared, "carpe diem," and moved ahead despite my typical one track mindedness. ...more
