The Balancing Act of Olympic Moms

You may have read my earlier post about  Olympic Moms at the Games in Beijing. Well, the games are almost over now and the mommies have done an outstanding job balancing motherhood and the demands of the Olympics. Congrats to all of them.  ...more

American Olympic Team IS "The Redeem Team" for Team Bush

The millions watching as the American male swimmers realized they'd won the Olympics gold in the relay race will never forget their reactions. Full-blown amazement gave way to uncontained ecstasy as they processed the unexpected and hard won triumph. Seconds before the first swimmer hit the water, the TV announcer had been saying that he'd done the math every which way and it always came up with the French taking this event. But these guys made the impossible a reality. ...more

Is Wii Fit Helping Me Get Fit?

For me, the answer to that question is, heck yea (or it was until it got struck by lightning and died.) Will it help you get fit? It might but there are a lot of things to consider before you shell out the money for the game (or the system if you don't already have a Wii.) I have to fight my natural tendency toward lethargy if I want to get anything done. Even the things that I love doing, like writing and decorating my house. Read more about my struggles to get to the gym. ...more

Strip Aerobics: Shake it Like it's Hot

Although I can put on a brave front, I must admit I was a little apprehensive about taking Strip Aerobics. I was picturing this big, brightly lit room with ultra-fit women parading around in skimpy clothing. I was afraid the students would laugh at me and critique my moves. I feared the class might involve removing my clothes. ...more

NBC's Beijing Olympics Coverage: Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down?

We're halfway through the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics so it's time to rate NBC's coverage.  First a caveat, I haven't seen every single hour of the coverage, but really, who has?  My opinion based on the many hours I have watched?  For once, I'll give them a thumb that's almost pointing up.  Some thoughts: ...more

If I Was in the Olympics...

When I tell people that I was a synchronized swimmer as a kid, I usually get some giggles from my friends.    I know exactly what they are thinking, "Is that even a sport?"   ...more
