When Your're First But Not The Winner

Imagine waking up every morning at 4:30a shivering a little in the cold, ignoring the internal voice that whispers, I’m still tired. I’m sore.  It’s cold.  I can do this later.  Imagine dressing in the dark so as not to disturb the sleeping form that lies warm and cozy in the spot next to the indentation you have left. ...more

Shred It

This weekend I jumped onto the bandwagon as far as bloggers and exercise goes.  It seems that every blogger I read has been trying out this new exercise craze, and seeing as my exercise is pretty much nonexistant as of late I decided to check it out. And can I just say “OWWWWWW!!!” ...more

Fitness women

A new wave, a new beginning needs a fit woman in all respects. When we talk about fitness women the traditional view is about the physical fitness of women. But there is more to fitness. We have to be consciously aware of the fact that as a human being we are not just the physical self but we are a unified wonder of nature encompassing the body, the mind, the heart and the soul. Unless we are fit at all these levels, we cannot create a harmony in the universe that is within us. If our inner universe is not fit, then we radiate a negative vibration in the outer universe. ...more

You're the Faster Runner but You're Not Allowed to Win

Arien O'Connell ran the Nike Women's Marathon in 2 hours, 55 minutes and 11 seconds. She had the fastest time by 11 minutes. I think she had every right to be upset when they announced the first place winner, Nora Colligan, who ran the same race (but ran with the elite group and had a 20 minute head start) in 3 hours and six minutes. You read that correctly.  ...more

Time to party like it's 1993 and can you resist the Wind in Your Vagina?

I'm trying reaallly hard to be productive today. But it's Friday and my shoes are too tight and there's someone with a leaf blower standing outside my window laughing at all the idiots inside this building he's enraging right now but we can't do anything about it because we're the ones stuck behind computers all day and he's the one with the leaf blower. Blowing things. And while we're on the topic of things being blown, my mind has been totally blasted this week trying to catch up with all the awesome new blogs on my list and OH YEA THE PHILLIES. ...more

Confessions from the Plus-sized department

Ok, is it just me?  Or do plus-sized departments just plain suck?  Why is it impossible to find anything nice that doesn't scream stripper (ummm yeah size 22 should NOT come in skimpy styles...) or only look like the little suits with jackets that my grandma would wear.  I went to JCPenney and they have about 16 small racks for the plus sized, most in awful colors.  Which is how I found my uniform of SJB t-shirts and jeans or capris depending on the season.  Nothing says frumpy fat like your never ending supply of shapeless t-shirts and jeans.... ...more

New form of exercise: dodging cars!

If there's one thing that's essential to being healthy, it's being alive. This is something which Winnipeg drivers, if my recent experiences as a pedestrian are any indication of, have a conflicting interest with. I happen to value my life. And I'm going to just make the wild assumption right now that if all of you are alive and reading this, you likely feel similarly and echo my sentiment! We all enjoy living, right? Right. ...more
