Soccer and My Daughter’s Concussion: What’s A Good Mother to Do?

At first, I didn’t even realize it had happened. My sixteen-year-old daughter was playing goalie for her premier soccer team at a college scouting tournament during Thanksgiving break this past November. As a player from the other team charged the goal, by daughter went in for the save. They both missed the ball and hit each other head-on. The other player fell down and then got up and brushed herself off. My daughter stumbled but didn’t fall. She then managed to capture the ball and save the goal....more

Here's What's Wrong with Sport$

There is something dramatically wrong with sports these days and there's only one way to fix it: get rid of the money. It used to be that athletes made average salaries, that taking your family to a live sporting event did not require a bank loan and that all sports were available on television for free as long as they aired on one of the three national networks.  Now?  Those things are fantasies of a past life....more

Move Over Guys - You're Not the Only Football Fans #SB47

In the last few weeks I’ve noticed more and more Pinterest users (all women) repinning my Super Bowl party ideas.  It shows me that women are gearing up for the Super Bowl just as much as avid male fans.  I imagine many of these ‘avid’ fans would argue that just because someone is interested in Super Bowl party ideas or recipes, doesn’t mean they’re truly a fan of the game.   There may be some validity to that, but from my personal experience – as both a football fan and the NFL’s social media manager -  ther...more

Pro Snowmobiler Caleb Moore Dead After X Games Crash

(It's difficult to watch the final seconds of Caleb Moore's run last week at the X Games. He under-rotated a big trick, sending his 450 lb snowmobile crashing onto him. Though Moore left the scene under his own power, it was clear from reports that the prognosis was not good. Just a few days ago, a website had been set up to help raise money for his medical bills. Today comes the news none of us wanted to hear. RIP Caleb ~js)...more
