I started to wonder how many individuals and organizations are using
Twitter to improve the world and bring awareness to environmental
issues. I knew they were out there because I post as eleblog for my elephant news site in addition to kwbridge
for this site and for personal use. I came up with the following list
A few weeks ago, I spent about an hour trying to find out where to
recycle regular AA alkaline batteries that come out of my son's toys.
Basically, I found that regular alkaline batteries are considered
household waste and you should throw them in the trash. So I started
thinking about rechargeable batteries. I've never bought them before
because batteries are so confusing and you just don't know what to do
when you're in the battery aisle at the store!
(And I thought they'd be expensive.)
I have been thinking a lot lately about religion and environment and how, rather than seeing them as opposed, we have to create a working relationship between the two. That relationship already exists, of course, but we have to take responsibility for it and take the message of eco-consciousness into the pews, onto the mat or zafu cushion, and into the temple. Wherever we are having a relationship with the Divine is the same place to work on our relationship with the earth. Even if we aren't pagans! Today, I wrote about
In 2008, there's no need to explain that a 'green kitchen' doesn't mean walls painted the color of sage or mint or lime or olive or even the lovely celadon. For anyone thinking about building a dream kitchen, environmental issues join long lists of considerations, even requirements.
One of my favorite spots for interesting a new technology ideas that deal with environmental issues is EcoGeek. In the last few days alone, EcoGeek has reported on Magic Machine Sucks CO2 from the Air, Convert Your Gas Mower to Solar, Nanopaper Soaks up Oil Slicks, and First Solar Powered Speedboat.
Organic tequila makes friends easily, I discovered when we opened a bottle of 4 Copas Organic Tequila at my friend Summer's birthday party (we haven't gotten to the pictured vodka yet). 4 Copas makes the world's only line of organic tequila, made with 100% organic blue agave. The bottles too are beautiful, as they're hand-blown by Jalisco craftspeople in local workshops!
Two Sundays ago we had the first beautiful day we have had in a long time...sunny and warm and just about perfect. So we packed a picnic lunch, piled in the car and drove to Salt Springs State Park.
Our recent discussion on "What should we eat and how should it be produced raised the very good point that as we talk about sustainability and food safety, we need to think about the safety of those working on the farm.
Hot time, summer in the city
It's hot. We've struck summer. It was spring and it's now Summer. For real. June 1, summer landed. I turned my air conditioner on, I've given in and up. I turn myself over to the Gawds of summer. I want my jumbo box of Popsicles and I want it now, being on the mindless summer block busters the pop music paeans to teen lurve. I accept it, I'm ready, I have my tank top on and I know where my bathing suit is.
