How to Stop Sharing Your Location Information

The Internet helps us connect and share with people around the world, but there are some people with whom you definitely shouldn’t be sharing your information. Although it’s not pleasant to think about, it’s not just friends and family that can see your online posts, bad guys can too, including criminals and even sex offenders....more

Let's finally end the insanity and demand strong gun laws!

Albert Einstein said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Isn't this how we handled all these horrific mass shootings by clearly deranged humans who without any problem obtained weapons to bring evil into our lives. We worry more about weapons of mass destructing being in the hands of hostile countries when instead we should be focusing all our attention on keeping weapons out of the hands of our mentally unstable citizens....more

Real Life in the Workplace

In my younger years I worked in a lot of restaurants.  Never fast food, always sit-down style. In the mid-nineties it was Steak & Ale, a fancy steak restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas. Always a top choice for romantic dinners and special occasions. The lighting was low and the chairs had high backs, reminiscent of royalty chairs meant to remind us of the Renaissance Era and make us all feel like kings. I worked there for several years as a hostess and office assistant....more

We've Got Demons in Our Heads

I first posted this on my blog, Bipolar Me, after the Charleston shootings, but it's still appropriate now.The media don't say it in so many words, but that's what they mean when they talk about "mental illness" after a tragedy, especially one that involves gun violence and mass murder.Demons are responsible. And those demons are the mentally ill (and/or) their medications (or lack of medications). Any way you look at it, we are the demons. Here's one of my favorite examples lately:...more

Intersectional Feminism as a Path to Unity

Combatting oppression can be extremely daunting – oftentimes, it feels necessary to just check out of the fight altogether. I would like to say (perhaps foolishly) that most people have a goal of combatting oppression in some sense of the word; as with most things in life, I’d also assume that most people have a different idea about what is the most effective way to go about it. Ideally, there would be a singular method to eradicate inequality....more

I Had An Abortion and it Wasn't Through Planned Parenthood

When I was 18 years old I got pregnant. It was my last year of high school and I was madly in love. I'd been in love with this boy for 3 years and was fully intending to be with him forever, just like any 18 year old who's in love. And also like many 18 year olds in love, we were sexually active. Very. Extremely....more
