February is Black History Month, and in honor of the occasion, we’re highlighting some blogs that shed light on the rich and varied experiences of African Americans.
Check them out and tell us if you have other blogs to share!
Like most people, we were watching the Super Bowl last night. What a sad day for Payton Manning. I mean, the Broncos team didn't even show up, which made me sad. I personally like watching the game for the commercials and the halftime show. I mean, what girl really cares about the game? Especially when you aren't fans of either team playing.
So we were watching and a new Coca-Cola commercial came on. I had no idea that one commercial could anger so many people.
This being America, you can tell the change in the season by what sports are on television. In March, that first time I'm flipping through channels and see baseball, it's like the first time the sun has ever shone. I cry, most years. That's not an exaggeration. Because baseball means spring, and dear lord are midwestern winters long.So I know it was just around the twins' birthday, when baseball was lagging and football only just getting started again, that my husband narrowly avoided having a very uncomfortable conversation with his children....more
While looking through my blog roll and scrolling news sites in search of some pop culture relief, I came across an article penned by Naomi Schaefer Riley entitled ‘Jay-Z a poor excuse for a husband’. The Year of the Horse begins on Friday, January 31. In honor of the Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year, celebrations last for two weeks in many Asian societies, and there are parades and festivities in U.S. cities with large Asian American communities.

This is my my response to Jen Caron's post on xoJane.com yesterday, called "IT HAPPENED TO ME: THERE ARE NO BLACK PEOPLE IN MY YOGA CLASSES AND I’M SUDDENLY FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE WITH IT."
Here is an excerpt of what she wrote:
Both eyes welled up and I blinked back the throat-lump that, if released, would send me into an ugly, snotting, snorting cry. Darnit, Disney did it again. How could they have made me cry over a little egged shaped robot crying over the death of another trash compactor robot? Outisde of a WALL-E or Eva said in robot voices, I don't even think they actually had a conversation during the entire movie....more
My first post of the year is actually a guest post on Momsoap! She's having a great conversation about race and perspectives on race. Having grown up in a poor neighborhood, and yes, even at one point eating the welfare cheese (you know what I'm talking about), I felt I had a voice to add.
