I remember my days of single motherhood very vividly.  The cold bus rides, enjoyable first baby moments spent alone and the endless nights where I wished I had a mate to share them with.  While I also had some great moments as a single mom, like  graduating from college with baby boy in tow, I often wonder now as a married woman what my life would have been like if only my son’s father would have been raised to understand that children come first and that parenthood is what we live for.

Not in my world! It’s bad enough there’s so much drama about the fact that I relax my hair vs keeping it natural, I don’t need additional scrutiny because my stylist is white. Yet, it happens more often than you think! #BlackHairCare is truly a hot topic.Read the remainder of the article and see the video interview on pegcitylovely.com

I completely understand the heartbreak over recent lives lost due to police in recent events. Every life matters and every death is a tragedy. With that being said, I would like to personally beg anyone in the media or in a role where others look to them for information and news to stop vilifying police. They aren't the bad guys, they are the best humanity has to offer. They run into a burning building to save someone's child while risking their own life. They jump in front of a bullet so an innocent bystander doesn't get hurt.

I love the holiday season. I love the festive lights, the feelings of goodwill and the stories of our various beliefs and how we all celebrate in our unique and special ways.

You know what annoys me? The media. They make people mad over something that has nothing to do with the situation.  Why do they have to title things : WHITE COP KILLS BLACK MAN.  Why can't they write: MIDDLE-AGED MAN KILLED BY OFFICER.And some people fall for it! I am sure there is racism still these days but not just for blacks. Some people say "Oh your family is in the mafia?" because I am Italian.  That is just ignorance. I just shrug it off - what can you do? Do I cause a scene? Do I get violent? NO because that is TRASHY.

Dear Eric GarnerI didn’t know you, but feel like I know something about you. The look in your eyes in all thpictures of you with your children – I know that look. I’ve seen it in pictures of myself, my husband, my friends and family – that look of overwhelming pride, exhaustion, fear, disbelief, and joy that overtakes you the moment you hold your child for the first time and realize you’re capable of experiencing a type of love you never even knew existed. You are a parent. You are a Dad.

I spend a lot of time worrying about whether I should say what I want to. I spend a lot of time concerned with how other people will react. I don’t want to upset people, partially because I know what that feels like and, partially, because I am sometimes afraid of whether or not other people will react in an aggressive or hurtful way.

We don’t get to choose the color of our eyes or the color of our hair. They make colored contacts and hair dye to change the small things we want to change yet we are left with something that we cannot permanently change with a box of hair dye or contacts we can pick up from our eye doctor-our skin color.

Growing up, I was the darkest person throughout my whole academic career-and I’m not black. I’m biracial with my mother having a Hispanic, Puerto Rican ethnic background while my dad was also biracial with African American and Caucasian background giving me a natural all-year-around tan look to my skin. With being the only girl with a hint of color in their skin, I was the main target for any racial joke that was made by my peers and even sometimes my teachers.

I'm not usually very analytical or serious on this blog, but as I was hunkering down on my day off—because I'm sick to my bones—to listen to another episode of Serial, I found myself jolting upright immediately when I heard the following quote:

Hey, folks. You know something?  When people of all ages, races and backgrounds across the country come together to protest something, over and over again, it pretty much 100% means there’s a very real issue at stake.

So the last day of the blogging every day for the month of November is today and I've stepped nearly completely out of my usual writing and have written a letter of sorts to the racist people or potentially racists people or whatever.
