17 week anatomy scan results and picture

Sorry for the delayed post. I know I made at least a few of you nervous. I was totally wiped out yesterday and had to also prepare a talk for today. This morning, I spoke to 400 military service members for three hours. Yowza. Ex-haus-ting. It went well, but I am glad to have the talk behind me. So...on to the anatomy scan. Yesterday, at 16 weeks, 6 days, I had my first anatomy scan. I thought I would . . .  Read more

A glimpse into my past...

You may remember that some time ago my step-father delivered some boxes to my house (ultimately to get rid of them because he had foreclosed...we'll not go any more into that). The boxes came from the house I grew up in...that I lived in for 20 years. What was in these boxes?  At the time, I didn't know.  Your guess was as good as mine. We put the boxes in our barn with the intention that I would go through them . . .  Read more

You Have an Inverted Chromosome

Sometimes the challenges on the road to parenthood feel so overwhelming that we just want to give up. Imagine you'd finally found the perfect egg donor only to discover that one of her chromosomes was inverted and she was no longer a suitable candidate?  Read more

Take that, Mr Glucose!

I am feverishly working on a Q and A Part II post, but before I do that I wanted to just give a quick update. Remember that glucose test I was freaking out about?? Well, I passed!! After you drink the sugar crap they give you (No really, it’s crap. It’s gross. At least I think so), you have to get your blood drawn exactly 1 hour afterwards. Your glucose level should be under 140. Mine was 114. Yeah, I gave myself . . .  Read more

Back Under the Knife

So I went back to the doctor once again on Friday.  They are really starting to love me around that place.  I had a follow up appointment scheduled for this coming Friday, but was just so miserable with pain on my left side that I moved it up a week. They did another ultrasound and found that the cyst on my left side is now 2.5cm (not that much bigger than it was three weeks ago) and that now . . .  Read more

Treating Endometriosis Without Hurting Your Fertility

Sarah C (Flickr)

I do wonder what would have happened if we had looked at more natural options for stage IV endometriosis from the start. Obviously, you can't look back like that. The world is full of what-ifs. But now that I'm treating it naturally, it's kind of nice to know that my body is capable of doing what it's supposed to do all on its own.  Read more

I am calm

Don't rob us just because we're aristocrats.  GRRR. Been meaning to blog for days about how awesome it is getting older and wiser and less concerned with appearances and expectations. But then I noticed my checking account balance was strangely low, even for me, and investigated. Yep, two stupid charges that weren't me. And not even possibly legitimate need-based items, but some stupid kids sleep store and SCRUBS. About $250 worth. Sounds like some lame mom-nurse stealing from an . . .  Read more

Crunch Time

I am feeling the pressure to get things done.  Little things like the laundry, since our dryer was broken for a few weeks I feel overwhelmed by it.  I have been going the laundry matt down the street, so I am not even that far behind.  But it feels important. Like something that MUST be done NOW. Then there are bigger things like my final paper for my Women's Health class. Since the semester is wrapping up and it is worth . . .  Read more

25 Weeks!

Whoa.  It's just weird for me to think that we're that far already. 25.  Only 15 more to go. Whoa. All is well in preggo-land.  I'm not one to complain a whole lot, but if you begged and pleaded with me to tell you all of my ailments, they would be the following: Having to pee a lot Slight lower back pain Sudden onset of heartburn.  The foods that do it the most?  Bananas and grapes.  Weird, huh?  Throw . . .  Read more
