Technical Difficulties

So... incredibly... frustrated. When I started my website, my husband wanted me to host it on his cousin's server instead of hosting through Wordpress. Fine. Whatever. I'm not a technical person (translation: I'm a computer idiot), so that kind of detail doesn't really register with me. It doesn't register with me, that is, when things ARE WORKING LIKE THEY SHOULD.

Last night, my husband's cousin did something and crashed the server. I mean, completely. My husband is, of course, out of town right now and cannot fix it. His cousin doesn't know how to fix it. I don't even know what a server actually IS, so there's no chance that I can fix it. So, just as I was starting to get regular readers, my website is COMPLETELY down and I have no way to let people know that I haven't abandoned it, I'm just having technical problems.

I feel so... helpless. I hate that feeling. My husband has always managed all of the technical stuff for my website, but NO MORE. I want to learn how to do it myself so that I never feel like this again. I should be back online in a few days--by the weekend at the latest(such a long time to be down!), and I know this isn't the end of the world but I just can't believe that I--who am typically very self-reliant and borderline controlling--put myself in this position.

What about other bloggers? Do you understand the ins and outs of HTML and CSS? Do you manage the technical aspects of your website yourself? How did you learn?
