Annoying behavior that's (unfortunately) revealing.

Anger tells me more about myself than just about any other emotion.  Maybe not specifically anger, because I’m not a very angry person, but certainly impatience.  And that tone of voice we get when we’re annoyed?  One of my least favorite things when I hear it coming out of my mouth. After going through a series of trials, minor and major, I realize this behavior refutes what I think I know about what kind of person I am.  ...more

Committed

I'm a commitment-phobe; perhaps a recovering commitment-phobe. In fact, I was secretly doing the "giving thing" for a while before I decided to finally commit to the whole concept and do an official 29 Gifts Round. I figured it would be good conversation for my book club....more

Need an answered prayer?

JMJ Do you have a prayer request? A special need?  Well, I spent all night placing a live webcam to Lourdes, France on my website, including a little mailbox to their prayer request email.  All kinds of weird computer problems kept cropping up, and I kept offering them up as a prayer, which did help to keep me from being annoyed.  Then... This morning I got an email from a friend who told me that today is OUR LADY OF LOURDES FEAST DAY!  Wow.  I had no idea!  That is just so cool... ...more

You Want to Google What?

My seven-year old son came home the other day and pulled a notepad out of his backpack. “This is a list of words we can search, if we have the kind of computer that can connect to the Internet,” he explained. Of course, he already knows our computer can go online. Duh… As a blogger, I’m constantly online. Besides updating my own site, hapamama.com, I follow dozens of other blogs, along with checking Facebook regularly (okay, hourly!). By the time I’ve finished my first cup of coffee each morning, I’ve probably checked three different email accounts, sifting through the assortment of spam — Free shipping! Friends and Family Sale! Enter Our Sweepstakes! Impress Your Lady With Your Size! — e-list digests, and a few actual personal messages.    But my initial reaction to my son’s request to do research online is, Hey, wait a minute there! Why didn’t the teacher say something about this earlier? Is this age- appropriate? After all, these kids are only in second grade. ...more
