BlogHer Gift GuidesStill need ideas for family, friends, teachers, coworkers, bloggers, zombie lovers, special needs kids, app addicts, photographers, style mavens, or foodies? We've got you covered and then some with our gift guides, chosen by BlogHer staff, contributing editors and members. We wouldn't steer you wrong.

**************************************************************

Whether you are a strong supporter of Black Friday, prefer to celebrate Buy Nothing Day, or support Small Business Saturday, the holiday shopping season has arrived. Do you know what you're buying? Are there still some holes in your shopping list? Can I help? I thought I'd share ten gifts that I'm giving this year -- even if it means risking the surprise for my family members who hang on every word that I write. (Hi TW! Hi mom! Hi Prince J! Hi! Hi! Hi! Nope, none of these are for you. Really. I swear!)

1) A unicycle. Damn, I've gone my whole life without ever having to put a bicycle together (except for that time when I was 14 and had a crush on a biker guy who taught us how to take apart and put together bikes... errr I took it apart just fine but don't think I ever quite managed to get it back together again properly, sorry dad!) and here I am with a unicycle -- in pieces. Pray for me, please.

2) A Tassimo. Oh how we love the Tassimo. It saves my life at least once a day, and I can't wait to gift my son with his very own elixir of life giving machine. He's going to love it and it's the gift that keeps on giving x2 since I'll be the one funding his addiction to the Tassimo by sending him new T-Discs every month.

Tassimo

3) A mustache mug. I really don't understand why one of my children loves the mustache so much, but I'm more than happy to feed her fixation with this cute mug. Now if I can just convince her not to leave a half drunk mug of hot chocolate in the living room every night...

4) Just Dance 2. TW and RJ had so much fun with Just Dance 2 at BlogHer 10 that it's a no-brainer. We must have this. Don't worry, I'll take video of the whole clan dancing their A**es off. You can thank me later for that.

5) Bitch Magazine. For years Michelle-belle has been asking for a subscription to Bitch and every year I've forgotten to get it. Then, she started volunteering at the Civic Media Center where they have the magazine readily available for her, so I thought she didn't need a subscription. But no, there it is, on her wish list again. And this year, she's getting it.

6) A Titanium Spork. What? Don't judge a geek by her spork, k.

7) Journals and notepads from Xoelle. I love these so much -- I wish I'd bought one for myself. Oh wait, maybe I did...

monopoly notepads

8) Books! Rare Words (1 and 2) for the child whose vocabulary isn't pretentious enough, and Complicated Relationships: Conversation on Polyamory and Anarchy for the child who is determined to give her grandmother a heart attack.

Rare Words

9) Cool T-shirts and Hoodies like "Know Your Nerds" for someone who likes visual clues to aid in nerd recognition, the Ada Lovelace hero shirt for the boy who knows women are geeks too, and this awesome snake tee that makes me kind of wish I liked snakes. OK, not really but it's cool, isn't it?

Know your nerds hoodie

10) An iPad or a netbook. Oy, this one is still up in the air. TW's sister ditched her laptop because "it didn't work" and now she needs... something. TW suggested the iPad because her sister is disabled and she thought the lightweight, easy to use iPad was an awesome idea. TW's mom thought it was not... until she saw Oprah give them away. Now

Lots of grandkids want Lego stuff, and my son wants a Kindle (maybe, maybe not.) I'm thinking about a gift of time: like maybe dinner and the theatre with ME. what could be better, I ask you? The gift I get to enjoy, too!

I just remembered in the Veggie Tales movie, Lord of the Bean, there were evil Sporks that attacked the Flobbits. Seriously.

Loving the two books.

And the spork.

Well, and everything. This is not a surprise, I know.

Seriously considering "Rare Words" for my boy!

As for gifts I'm planning to give, I just wrote about that today--the scene stealer in my house this year may in fact be the rubber chickens.

I love the Pez version, almost enough to buy it. But not quite.

The problem with going to BlogHer conferences is that you end up with dozens of flash drives and never need to buy another... which means you don't get cool flash drives like this.

Maybe I could make my own... hmm...

We looked at a top line unicycle at a very expensive bike shop last summer. Oy, it was beautiful and the guy was going to give us a deal but we just couldn't afford it and it was really too big for the small child.

The one we bought, I got lucky and found it for half price. I'm feeling awfully good about this gift - even if she'll have to wait six months to use it because of the weather here. ;-)

You should get yourself one. Or maybe think about teaching the kids to ride one. ;-)

Hahaha, at giving Rare Words to a four year old. This particular child would probably have liked that. ;-)

We weren't sure what to get my partner's mother... I was able to get a Nook yesterday for half price. I hope she likes it. ;-)

Several of my children have gone through the sugar skull phase. A couple of them might actually still be in it. Or they are still in it because I see Day of the Dead/Skulls that I'm sure they would love ... and I buy them. :-)

I think Walmart only assembles the bikes they sell. And, TW swears she can put together a bike. Hahahaha. I can hardly wait. Thankfully Chris and Michelle will be here and I'm pretty sure they can both put together a bike. Mostly.

My mom said she wasn't doing Christmas for anyone except for her grandchildren under the age of 10. I said great, I'll join you... but then realized I had gifts for almost everyone. Not big gifts but gifts just the same. Oh shoot. I just realized I do not have a gift for my dad and his wife. Shoot. Happens every year.

Can you try the link to the Darth Vader gift again, it looks like you just re-pasted the sugar skulls...

Excellent, unique gifts :-)

I learned to ride a unicycle when I was 13, but that was the last time I rode one. I almost bought one for myself about 10 years ago and have regrets that I didn't, but I couldn't see spending the money at the time, even though now I realize how cheap that unicycle was because the store was going out of business.

I'm pro mug! The book of big words looks like something my sister would gift my 4yo. Hysterical list, I like your family knowing the sorts of gift's they warrant.

I don't know if it included unicycles or bikes bought elsewhere. I have a 3 wheeled scooter to assemble and stash at Dad's house in the next 2 weeks.

Otherwise we're boring. My sister refuses to spend money on anyone other than Charlie. Dad gives us cash. Hubby's family isn't drawing names for adults this year. Yeah, the whole "no one will get offended if they don't get a gift" line made me laugh. The kids (13 and under) are getting gifts. And a favorite nephew & wife only.

Hubby gave me his wish list - ESPN's 30 for 30 season 1 DVD set. I'm getting him a watch too since his died this year.

Charlie - no clue what else to get the boy. He wants everything he sees. He's 5 with a birthday in early Jan.

Books - I always received books as a gifts and love giving them.

My niece loves Sugar Skulls so I'm looking at these on Etsy. http://etsy.me/h6iBoj

For my nephew - He loves Darth Vader & is a computer tech. http://etsy.me/h6iBoj

And here I had my finger on the buy button at ThinkGeek. I guess I'll save my geek points for someone else who wants a Titanium Spork. TW maybe?

LOL the unicycle is for the youngest child who takes circus arts classes. I find the unicycle much less dangerous than the trapeze or the silks...

I see that as funny and educational. Love that!

The unicycle sounds fun but dangerous. I hope you give it to someone young with a good, strong back.

Am I officially getting old when I fear that a week of recovery would be required from a minor bike fall? The youngun's I guess need not worry!

Sounds fun! Thanks for sharing.

The answer was "no reason" which I think can translate to "because I said so."

And he confirmed that he would rather have his lucky fork than a titanium spork.

Tell him to tell it on Facebook - or better yet, come here and tell it in the comments. He'd look great with that spork.

For the fake husband but he uses his "lucky fork" at work (I honestly have no idea what the story is with it) and I don't think he wants to replace it.
