Thankful Bucket Garland...A Thanksgiving Family Tradition
By uncommondesigns on November 18, 2014
What a perfect way to celebrate autumn! Your family can fill each little bucket with little notes about what you're thankful for.
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Floral wire
- Adhesive hooks
- 2 9-foot twig garlands
- 2 6-foot oak leaf garlands
- Chipboard alphabet letters
- Chocolate-brown extra-fine glitter
- Martha Stewart glitter glue
- Wood spring clothespins
- 8 small metal buckets
- Faux maple leaves Burlap
Stretch out your two twig garlands and attach to your mantel. We used adhesive hooks. You will need to play around with the loops in the garland to get the look you want. We wired some of the loops together to get it to hang the way we wanted.
Take your two leaf garlands and wind them through the twig garlands. Don't worry about bare spaces; we will take care of that in another step.
Apply the glitter to your chipboard letters to spell the word "THANKFUL," using the glitter glue; allow to dry. While your letters are drying, trace some leaf shapes or use a die cut machine to cut out leaf shapes out of your burlap. Glue the burlap leaf shapes to the front of the buckets with your glue gun.
Look how sweet all your buckets are after you've attached all the letters with your glue gun!
Next, attach the buckets to the garland with the clothespins.
Attach leaves with your glue gun where you have some bare spots on the twig garland. This is the fun part, where you can make it your own! We added a few burlap leaves to the garland, as well.
Now, your mantel is ready for Thanksgiving. What a special way to celebrate with your family!
I hope you can start some new family traditions this year. Did you catch our family's other new tradition—our "Thankful Turkey?"
