"There's nothing special about me"
"what makes us think the aspects of our character can't compete with the talents we may or may not use"
Has this thought ever flickered across your mind? Ever been asked "so, what makes you unique?" and spent far too long searching for a half decent answer? If so, I'd like to explore what makes us feel inadequate - what makes us think the aspects of our character can't compete with the talents we may or may not use, or the activities we participate in.
A good friend of mine once said those very words "there's nothing special about me", yet she's one of the most kind hearted, warm and generous person I've ever met, which got me thinking. There are talents some of us have been blessed with, and interesting 'hobbies' we take part in, but these things are really fairly superficial and bear no importance when it comes to the person themselves.
In a professional setting you may be asked by an employer to share something unique about yourself, you may be asked on a date, and there are many other instances when you'll need to consider this question. For the next few weeks I'll be writing about the effects depression has on self image, how to build confience and most importantly, how to find out exactly what is 'special' about yourself.
