From krameymartin.
I have been talking about BlogHer
for many many moons now, and this last weekend, it finally happened! I
headed to Chicago Thursday at the butt crack of dawn and got in about
one. Rhi and I took a cab to the hotel and the fun began there.
So, in order to sum up my BlogHer experience I will share with you a few things I learned.
1. I burn easy. Though I tried to make it cool by calling it a "BlogHer Burn," it hurt like a mother.
Friday, at the Ragu
lunch, I happened to stand next to a spotlight on the floor for about
.25 seconds. The result was the above photo. A second degree burn which
now has some snazzy purple bubbles and has made my entire right leg
ache. Dear BlogHer, please move all SCALDING hot lights off the floor next year in NYC. Mmmkay thanks.
2. I am obnoxiously shy. Despite the opportunity to meet pretty much my entire blogroll
during the Conference, I am not sure I did much more than smile and
blush at them. So sorry about that all. I really enjoyed meeting you
even if you couldn't tell!
3. I do not care who reads my blog.
Not to say that I don't love those of you that do, because I LOVE YOU.
And I'm not trying to be all judgemental-y, but honestly I just wasn't
into running around the Sheraton handing out my little green
(homemade!) Moo cards. Although I was slightly proud of them.
I really enjoy reading the people on my blogroll
and in my Google reader and I love the fact that I have made some
really great friends on the Internet. But I did not go to Chicago to
promote myself, my blog or anything else "me" related. I do not think I
am that brilliant, original or witty. I blog because I like it. 'Nuff said.
4. FREE, pink, HD Kodak video cameras are pretty great. Of all the awesome little samples, coupons and USB drives (because GOOD LORD I got like 7!), the camera was by! far! my favorite swag.
5. Chicago is freaking gorgeous. The city, the Navy Pier (to which I journeyed with Kerri and Sizzle) and the beautiful greenish river that flows right on through.

6. Marshmallow beds are good for snuggling Rhiannons, but not for sleeping so much.
7. Live tweeting your dinner is hilarious. While at a FANTASTIC Italian dinner with my lovelies, Sizzle had a baby, I became a nun, Carrisa stole Kerri's identity, Rhi decided to sell all her possessions and move to Yemen and Kerri got her braces removed, all for the sake of #blogher09. So perhaps no one even noticed besides us, but it was quite entertaining at the time. Cheers!
8. I am grateful.
I am grateful for this place to share my thoughts, that people read
them, comment and at least feign interest in my life:). I am grateful
for the friends I have made here. I am grateful for Rhi
showing me all that is the Internet world and for her patience as I
acted as her shadow for three days in Chicago. I am grateful to the
people who helped me get to Chicago. And I am grateful for the
experience.
I could say so much more, but instead I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
Ali, Me, Rhi.
