thirstyGirl Beer Review & Recipe: Alchemy Ale with Burgers

thirstyGirl beer review Alchemy Ale and burgers

Lately, thirstyGirl reviews have been mostly focused on wine, and I wanted to change things up a bit. I went to my local grocery store and picked up a bomber I had never tried. Today thristyGirl beer selection was Widmer Brothers’ Alchemy Ale.

We practice Alchemy every day turning water, malt, hops and yeast into liquid gold. Alchemy Ale melds years of experimentation and our special Alchemy hop blend, in a pure expression of brewing art and science. Join us in unlocking the mystery to the perfectly balanced, perfectly hopped ale. Alchemy Ale has bright, distinct hop character balanced with hints of caramel and remarkably smooth finish. Widmer Brothers

Style: American Pale Ale

Alcohol: 5.8%

Aroma: I poured the beer in a nice cold mug. The beer has an amber colored body, and frothy head. The head takes some time to recede, and coats the glass once it’s gone. Smell is very appealing and refreshing with notes of citrus and sweet caramel. Taste Upfront the taste is sweet, and it quickly turns into a malt, citrus and spice flavor. The final notes have a pleasant bitterness that isn’t overwhelming.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Price: $8 /6-pk

Overall: A pretty refreshing beer that is somewhat unique in its bitter and sweet notes. But, I find other pale ale’s have a little more complexity and flavor.

Recipe Pairing: Pre-season burgers (beef or turkey) with sea salt, paprika, garlic and black pepper. You can add swiss cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms, and jalepenos to add an additional layer of complexity. Toast buns and serve with sweet corn on the cob and oven baked french fries.
