Thousands of voices, one search: BlogHer Network Search Beta
by Lisa Stone

We're excited to unveil a new service: The BlogHer Network Search Beta, powered by Lijit.com.

BlogHer Network Search is a customized search engine designed to help users easily find great writing by women who blog - on BlogHer.com AND beyond. By default, BlogHer's search will now return results from the many blogs in our publishing network. If you wish only to search the BlogHer.com site, please select "BlogHer.com" to narrow results.

The 2,000 bloggers in our publishing network have embraced our community guidelines for editorial quality and frequency, blogging across more than two dozen topics -- from parenting to politics, from food to DIY to dating, from entertainment and style and body image to business and technology.

If you're interested in a topic, women are talking about it! We hope you enjoy this service. And if you'd like to have your blog listed in the BlogHer Network Search, apply here for this member benefit.

This is a very much appreciated addition!  I can't wait to try it.  BlogHer is so rich andI always feel that I missed something.  I always will miss something I guess, but now we will be able to come back and find it.  Congratulations!

What are the ranking criteria?

I've just tested a few posts that I happen to know the results of on Google -- for my own sites and a few others -- and didn't find the results on the first, second, third, fourth, fifth or even sixth pages. And then I gave up.

More listings per page would also be appreciated.

Hi Alanna

Thanks for asking. Easy answer first: We're serving 15 listings per page, and Google serves 10. In the interest of readability and balance, we thought that seemed about right - you think it should be more?

We've been very happy with the beta, particularly since Lijit's team is so responsive. Can you share what you were testing, so we can check out the results?

Lijit for Networks vs. Lijit for individuals

Hi Lisa,

Publishers Union of Bloggers currently advise individual Publishers
hold off installing any Lijit Software on their blogs pending both Lijit’s
promised upcoming transparency from Lijit concerning revenue and Lijit's
current 'terms of use' which gives Lijit free reign concerning use of your
content once our Publishers install Lijit Software into their blog.

Perhaps as a network you enjoy a different version of Lijit in this beta, one that one day individual bloggers may?

Any thoughts on these critical issues for Pub's, pass it on, all appreciate it.
