Pioneer Woman, Stirrup Queens, and Orangette: Bloggers Release Romance Books
The weather outside is frightful. And cold. All I want to do is huddle down in blankets and take bubble baths (yes, I read in the bathtub). My favorite type of book to read on a cold, blustery day is romance. They are a little bit of heat, a little bit of fantasy and they melt the winter blues away. My favorite source for finding books has been other bloggers but now bloggers themselves are tipping the tables. Bloggers are bringing romance to a bookshelf near you
Ree Drummond, who is better know as the Pioneer Woman, has a new book out in stores that is all about romance. The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels -- A Love Story is about how she met her husband and ended up not living in Chicago as she had planned but on a ranch in Oklahoma. Part of the story originally appeared on her blog as a series by the same name. If you are like me and read the story on her blog, the book goes beyond their wedding and includes their first year of marriage. Eliza Borne from Bookpage interviewed Drummond and had this to say about the book.
[...]The Pioneer Woman is perfect reading for Valentine’s Day, whether you’re celebrating a lasting love or still looking for The One. Yes, it is mushy and occasionally sentimental, but I’d venture to say even the most cynical of readers will be charmed by Drummond’s hilarious story of being won over by a cowboy.
Molly Wizenberg, the woman behind the popular food blog Orangette, released A Homemade Life a couple of years ago. It's not a purely a love story. There are memories of her father and recipes but you melt a little when you read about how she met Brandon, now her husband, through her blog and how that romance blossomed. Theirs truly is a bloggy love story.
BlogHer's own Melissa Ford (also of Stirrup Queens) recently released her first novel, Life From Scratch. I interviewed Melissa about the process of writing her novel, which made reading it all the more fun. Life From Scratch is about what happens when your marriage didn't turn out quite the way that you thought it would, and how you let love back into your heart. New York City stars as a side character and I don't know what it is about New York City but romances set there always kind of make me melty. Oh and did I mention that her main character, Rachel, is a blogger? Megan, from Write Meg! loved that aspect of the book.
Oh, Melissa Ford — how you captured the heart and soul of a blogger. It felt like you could have written this book for me. With fresh prose and very likable characters, I’m now standing here before you — proudly — with a copy of Life From Scratch waving above my head. Read it! I’m shouting. Read it.
There you go, three bloggers who are bringing the romance. Do you have any favorite bloggy romance stories?
