Three Gift Ideas to Change the World

Every year, the international community spends more on gifts during the holiday season than is needed to end hunger for a year. Many of the gifts bought are soon forgotten—raise your hand if you’ve never received socks, candles, or bath salts in your Christmas stocking!

Well, here are three ideas for anyone searching of original gifts ideas that will also help feed the world’s hungry!

1. Gift of Hope (gift.wfp.org)

Instead of clothes or gadgets, this is a gift catalog of virtual gifts like “enough nutritious biscuits to feed 100 people in an emergency.” The person you’re sending this gift too, also receives an e-card informing them of this fine gesture carried out in their name.

These gifts are virtual to the person you’re sending them to, but very real to the hungry who benefit.

2.  Shop against Hunger (shopagainsthunger.com)
An online shopping mall where you can find everything from computers to garden accessories. Each time your purchase something, a small amount of each purchase is used to buy food for the hungry. You can also track how many people you’ve fed over time, even after the holiday season is over.

3. Wall Against Hunger (wall.wfp.org)
This is an online wall of photos of people who have contributed to the fight against hunger with a donation, and placed an eCard on the wall to honor the world’s hungry and a friend or family member. It’s a great take on the traditional card, and you share it with the rest of the world.
