Three Signs You are Ready To Go From Part-Time to Full-Time
By Deborah Sweeney on February 01, 2013
Starting out as a part-time entrepreneur is a great way to get your toes wet in the self-business waters. You get to become accustomed to the overall feel of running your own business, but you get to stay at your “real job” for the consistent pay check. But how do you know when you’re ready to switch from part-time to full-time with your own business and dive in head first?
Here are three things that should happen before you make the jump:
When the money equals out.
First thing’s first, you need to be able to sustain yourself. If you feel that you could live off of what you’re making from your part-time entrepreneur venture if you only gave it more time during the day, then by all means do that. But if it’s a complete gamble, continuing to do both would be safest and smartest. You can always continue to grow your business part-time to eventually prep for a full-time routine down the road.
When you have everything you need.
Assuming that you have enough saved up, do not officially make the full-time jump until you have everything your business would need to be a full-time business. This could be anything from office supplies to employees to a store. That may mean continuing the part-time gig until you can save up for the perfect office/shop space for your own business.
When you love your business.
I know this sounds like a no-brainer. Why would you start something in the first place if you didn’t love it? But you have to be confident enough to love your business so much that you feel alright leaving behind a very comfortable, consistent source of income for a whole new life style. This can be daunting, but when you know, you know.
