Tide and Tim Gunn want to know – What Are YOU wearing to BlogHer '09?

That's right, your friends at Tide are bringing Tim Gunn - the leading fashion authority - to BlogHer '09!

As someone who celebrates personal style, Tim wants to know what everyone is wearing to BlogHer. BlogHer attendees are encouraged to post a comment below and link to a photo (on their personal blogs) of the fashionable outfits they'll wear in Chicago. Every blogger who posts a comment and a link will automatically be entered to win a private style consultation with Tim Gunn in the Tide & Bounce Laundry Lounge on Saturday. We'll announce the winner on Tuesday, July 21st, so check back to see if you've won!

Tim will also be in the Tide & Bounce Laundry Lounge (Booth #311) on Saturday from 3 - 5 P.M. to talk all things fabric care and fashion. We encourage you to come by our booth to say hello and dish with our special guest.

Update: Congratulations to lucky BlogHer Beth Terry, the winner of the style consultation with Tim Gunn!  Don't forget to come by the Tide booth on Saturday for your chance to meet him In Real Life.

In the meantime, here are a few tips that might help "guide your style" as you decide what to pack for BlogHer:

Tim Gunn's Essential Items for BlogHer:

  • Basic Black Dress - The basic black dress has been around for a long time. It is often called the "Little Black Dress" and it's true that shorter skirts on the basic black dress, when they hit you in the right place, can be more flattering than a long black dress. The LBD is a key essential for all those cocktail and after parties throughout BlogHer!
  • Classic Shirt - The white shirt is a definite classic. But it can also come in many different styles to make it look trendy and not dated or like a man's piece of clothing. Find one that accentuates your best attributes and minimizes trouble spots. Dress it down during the conference with jeans and a blazer - you'll look chic and feel comfortable at the same time.
  • Jeans - Everyone has a pair of jeans, but does everyone have a pair of jeans that makes them look great? The wider leg, low-rise jean style has been popular (and still is) but a narrower leg is coming back along with a higher waist, which eliminates the unflattering "muffin top" look. Make sure to bring comfortable jeans for all those sessions when you'll be sitting down.
  • Skirt - If you need dress pants then you also need a skirt. A skirt is womanly and can be flirty or businesslike. Nowadays women do not wear many skirts or dresses, which makes a lot of them fall into a rut of dressing sloppily or like men. See number 8.
  • Day Dress - Women also are not wearing as many dresses anymore. It was certainly liberating to go from the '50s when women wore dresses every day to wearing more practical pants for gardening, exercising, and so forth. But the dress does not have to be abandoned altogether. They can be very flattering, and there is nothing wrong with "dressing up" for daytime - especially during summertime in Chicago.
  • Jacket - A jacket does not have to be masculine. Find one with a proper, fitted shape. Women's jackets should follow the silhouette of a woman's body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist. It is also a perfect piece to put with the skirt or dress pants, and white shirt. Or make it casual with a pair of jeans as you're working the conference floor!
  • Clothing Maintenance - A cardinal rule of great fashion is to take good care of your clothes. Use a detergent like Tide Total Care to prevent fading, stretching and pilling, so your clothes look newer, longer.

Dear Tim Gunn: I LOVE YOU.

I would be too embarrassed to show my personal style, which is to say, I have NO STYLE. Or fashion sense. Or any idea how to cover my fat ... I mean, "trouble spots" properly.

But I must say that I'm ever so happy to know that Tim Gunn will be there because I LOVE HIM.

The LBD for Me

I am packing no less than two LBD's for Blogher and possibly one hot pink slink of a thing.  I'll gladly post pics and do something soon.  As for a pair of well fitting jeans?  Just bought a pair last week and they are being tailored as we speak.

Seeing this post about Tim Gunn being at Blogher 09 made me yell the uneloquent phrase of, "Get the F*** out!"

Tim Gunn, I need your help

I am a complete fashion idiot! Up until this announcement, I thought I would be able to sneak into BlogHer 09 with the same old stuff I have been wearing this summer. Now, I am thinking otherwise.

Oh great Mr Gunn, please help!

Oh wow, I definitely have to do some serious shopping, talk about fashion pressure! I can't link to pictures, I don't even have the clothes yet!

Can't believe he's gonna be there...wow. Tim Gunn, I SO need fashion help, as you'll see soon enough

"Dignity is Overrated"

OMGOMGOMGOMG.

I want to bring something for him to sign like a hideous bag that doesn't match a single pair of shoes. I love him. I want him to live in my closet and just hand me things.

No no no

No, no, no, not back into the closet!!!

Option D: None of the Above

Not one of the things Mr. Gunn mentions as a must have are anything I am bringing.

Perhaps I can scrounge up a pair of jeans, I doubt they will make me look great.

Pics?  uh no

Fashion, I don't need no stinking fashion...

Somebody has to represent the "I don't care this is comfortable and paid for" fashion sensibility.

Nothing against Mr. Gunn but fashion and me have had an on-going battle. I see no reason to yield to the fashion industry denigration of my body or what it should be wrapped in. Contemporary fashion has never taken into account my age, bumps and curves.

I'll be lucky enough to remember to bring the washed clothes that match. I ain't ironing anything.

Really ladies, chilax - we'll love you as you are. Just show up ok?

Oh Tim, I wish I knew

Clearly Tim thinks I am far more prepared than I am if he thinks I already know what I am wearing to BlogHer.

I haven't decided on my two outfits yet, but here's what I definitely will NOT be wearing:

R U kidding me?!?!?

What I wouldn't give for a fashion consultation with Tim Gunn. What is in style for a pundit this season? Here's a photo of me in one of the outfits I wore to last year's BlogHer -- I'm thinking the cropped jacket is a little dated -- yes? No?

The fuzzy blue guy never goes out of style, though.

Can Tim find a trenchcoat for me?

This is, by far, the best event I've seen for Blogher 2009.

I love love love Tim Gunn.

Can I wear my black polka dot dress to meet Tim.  I don't know.

Oooh, baby.

How exciting!  Who wouldn't want to get this opportunity?  I could certainly use the advice!

Plus, I can't live without my Tide to Go pen.  Clumsy, big bosomed girls of the world (like me) need this product!

I will be there with Jeans on

I'm still of the low rise kind but i work very hard to keep myself muffin -top free.

Tim, I watch you season after season on Project Runway but I have to say, I love you the most when I see you on The Biggest Loser. Your compassion and gentle approach towards the contestants brings tears to my eyes.  You are truly a gentleman of the first order.  Here is a pic ofn outfit sent to me by my mother which I promptly gave away.  I think she was having a psychotic break when she bought them, i just hope she wasn't anywhere near SFA at the time.
