Time Is Running Out: Help Our Public Schools NOW

BlogHer Original Post

On October 1st, BlogHer announced it would be joining DonorsChoose in support of public education. Since then, many of you have spared what cash you could to help projects submitted by teachers.

For this I thank you.

But our work is not done. Many of the projects BlogHer contributing editors have chosen remain unfunded and without support. Even $1 can make a huge difference, or simply blogging the effort can help spread the word.

Take a look at the projects our editors have chosen and please spread the word or give at least $1.

I want to share with you exactly what your blogging or your dollar can do- as the project I chose did get funded and the teacher and students could not be more grateful.

"A GREAT BIG AMERICAN THANK YOU FROM STUDENTS IN ROOM 1!! My first grade students were elated to find out we would have our laptop up and running to complete the presidential election in November and to follow it to the inauguration in January!! We already have our Presidential Corner set up and ready with our ballot box, ballots, voting graphs, tally charts, and tons of books relating to elections and our country. My students plan to assist a RIF book distribution and set up ballot boxes for other students to vote for their favorite story book character: Junie B.Jones or Arthur. We are also participating and assisting in a school wide election on October 28th to cast our votes to see who our school choice would be. This is going to be a wonderful learning experience for my students and we all thank you for being part of it! You never know...one of my students may be a future president!! Thanks Again!"

DonorsChoose tells me 870 students have been reached by our donations- 870! But there is more to do. Your donation, or just a post on your blog could help students learn about photography, help kids learn language skills, teach life skills like cooking, aid girl sports, create a student newspaper, discover their heritage, teach the science behind global warming, promote Canadian literature, and build a community garden.

ALL worthy of at least a blog post or $1, right? Please join us, please help us make a difference in our public schools.
