Tip: Handling Comments

So what do YOU do with your comments? Do you answer every single one of them? Every time? Even if you don't really have a good reply? Do you answer a few? Do you answer them in the comments or do you send an email? Do you do a combination of these things?

What makes you feel good as someone who leaves comments? And is there any method of comment handling that is more likely to bring someone back to your site on a regular basis?

I waiver from answering every comment to answering only a few. I also jump back and forth between answering the comments within the comments and emailing my response and thank you. I've just never felt sure which was best - for me or for the people who leave comments.
