Tip: Product Reviews Can Bring Page Views

I don't write a lot of product reviews. OK scratch that, I blog about a lot of products and I blog about a lot of books. But they aren't usually "reviews". I mention these things a lot. I talk about whether I liked them or didn't like them. Sometimes I'm really specific and other times I am not. I don't set out to write product reviews I just blog about stuff that is important in my world, or plays a part in my life.

Even though I don't write product reviews in any traditional way, I still get a lot of google search hits from products I've blogged about. Shower Soothers, the Prius, House of Pancakes, Twizzlers, Lisa Frank Back Packs. All of these things bring me google search hits every single day. And all I did was write a blog post (or a couple) that mentioned these things/places. And, I linked the name of the products/places.

Right here on BlogHer, Danielle wrote a product review for Blue Lizard Sunscreen and the company picked it up and put it on their webpage: Blue Lizard Sunscreen. That placement on their homepage has brought in a lot of visitors to Danielle's post. Will some of them stick around and read more posts on BlogHer? Will they follow Danielle's writing in the future, here or elsewhere? I don't know. But page views are good. Attracting new visitors is also good. Writing a good review can help you do both.

There was a BlogHer Con session to discuss blogging product reviews. Click that link to see my friend Anne-Marie's live blogging from the session.

Do you write product reviews? Do you get a lot of hits from reviews you've written or products you've linked? Have any of your reviews been picked up by the company that owns the product?
