Today Is A Good, Good Day!

David's piano teacher made me a little nervous - she doesn't usually allow parents to stay while she gives lessons. Since this is David, and she hasn't worked with an autistic child before, she asked me to sit in the family room for this first lesson and said she'd call on me if she needed me.

She didn't.

In fact, David picked up proper fingering of the keys on the first try and was doing short scales within the first ten minutes. She explained the sequence of notes on the keyboard and he (just a few minutes later) was sight-reading a simple line of notes and playing Yankee Doodle. She said he was way ahead of some of her other beginning students already and definitely is what she'd call a "music kid".

And David? He had a blast and he was nearly as proud of himself as his Mom was. Nearly. Now excuse me as I try to wipe this silly grin off before it splits my face in half. I am one happy, happy Mommy today!
