Too Too Cute

I haven't been blogging much the last few weeks because it's been hard to get time during the day to sit down with my laptop (my baby is a champion nighttime sleeper, but has no interest in naps -- in fact, I'm watching her wake up from this one on the monitor now after less than half an hour), but I have been crafting.  I've figured out how to do some things while I feed her and I've been stealing time at night to do the rest.  The first project I have to show you is my favorite from the book I've been using a lotWhat To Knit When You're Expecting.

This is the Tutu pattern, which I knit with Knit Picks Aloft in Kenai and Reverie in Gemstone.  The yarns were a real pleasure to work with, although I couldn't knit the Aloft while feeding the baby -- way too slippery on my needles!

I made the size 6-12 months, but my gauge swatch lied and the bottom layer is way too big.  I went down a needle size partway through the bottom layer and did not have enough Aloft for it to continue through the entire waistband.  I absolutely love the way the skirt looks despite those issues.  I knit it in the round because I thought the Aloft would be hard to seam.  This was probably insane, since I'm guessing it was harder to purl every other row, but I do like that the skirt can slide all around on V and no one will be the wiser.

Another change I made?  My new DyakCraft Darn Pretty interchangeables arrived in the middle of the project, so I was able to switch to them from my trusty Knit Picks Options when I went down a size.  The new needles aren't going to completely replace the Options in my heart or my projects, but they are gorgeous and really nice to work with.  Unfortunately, something about the way I knit is wonky enough that their swivel tips still occasionally unscrew on me.  I guess I'm just doomed that way!
