If you have a boy on your holiday shopping list and you feel stumped, don’t worry. I’m here with a list of ideas for gifts for boys anywhere from newborn to college-aged. Whether he’s still playing pat-a-cake or multi-player first person shooter games on XBOX, there’s a gift on here for him. I’ve rounded up some of the newest and hottest gifts for boys* this season and put them all in one list for you. You’re welcome!
0-2 Boys: Not that your little boy would notice whether you gave them a doll or a truck or a box this Christmas (and quite honestly, he’d prefer the box), there are some fun options for the younger set.
Peek at Me Bunny by Vtech. The feature I like most on this new interactive toy from Vtech is the “Night Mode.” It will play a softer and continuous five minutes of music to help lull your little one to sleep. The interactive play for the daytime settings can help teach your child to clap or, as you might guess by the name, play peek-a-boo. It retails for around $15.00, but is currently on sale at vtech for $11.99!
2-5 years: Cars 2 just came out on DVD and Blu-Ray earlier this month, and little boys everywhere have fallen back in love with Lightning McQueen, Mater and the gang. Expanding their love into gift ideas is super easy!
LEGO DUPLO Cars Agent Mater or the Lego Duplo Disney Cars Exclusive Limited Edition Set World Grand Prix would make any 2 to 5-year-old Cars lover squeal with delight. The first one is really a beginner type of set, perfect for those two-year-old kids who are just learning to play with DUPLO blocks. It retails for around $17.00, making it great to give a kid on your gift buying list. The World Grand Prix set is a bit more involved and would be great for an older child in the age range who isn’t quite ready for smaller LEGOs but has been building for awhile. It’s a bit pricier at $50.00, so it might be a nice “big” gift for your own son.
6-10 years: I’m kind of geeked out about Star Wars being as popular with our kids as it was with us -- if not more so. When I asked on twitter about what boys want for Christmas, the resounding answer was: STAR WARS LEGOS. And so...
2011 brought a bunch of new Star Wars sets, ranging from the small to the big. An affordable option might be the LEGO Star Wars Imperial V-Wing Starfighter.
It retails for around $20.00, which is quite affordable in the Star Wars world. And on Earth.
For the manic Stars Wars fans among us, you won’t want to miss this new addition: the Millennium Falcon. Oh yeah. Also? It comes with Chewbacca. Oh. Yeah.
This one will set you back a little, retailing around $140.00. Watch the sales though. LEGO sets are known for their quick up and down in prices.
A tip for LEGO loving families: Utilize Brickset.com to search for sets you don’t yet have and to keep an eye on the most recent markdowns of LEGO sets on Amazon. They post updates on prices four times a day as the prices will fluctuate. So bookmark it now!
Tweens: If your tween isn’t interested in video games, count your lucky stars and buy him some books. (May I suggest the Percy Jackson series?) If he is, I would be willing to bet that you both will love my new-spin-on-an-old-classic suggestion.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I remember spending an entire Christmas afternoon playing Zelda on my original Gameboy. (That’s right.) It’s just a great game in many respects. This version for the Wii uses the Wii Motion Plus accessory to sync your movements with Link’s. Imagine sword slashing in your living room! Hours of fun! It will be released on November 20th, though you can pre-order it now on Amazon for $59.99. (That version comes with a Zelda music CD. Score!)
