I was one of the attendees of BlogHer’13 who had to hear of Jill Nystul’s presentation on how she succeeds on Pinterest through the second-hand accounts of others who had actually been in the room. It was really good stuff, I was told.

“Really? Like what kind of good stuff?” I asked.

“Like, really good stuff,” I was told again.

Nystul, the creator of “One Good Thing by Jillee” has taken Pinterest by storm and made Pinterest stardom look easy. (Spoiler Alert: She has confirmed it isn’t. It takes work.)

How fortunate was I to get Jill to agree to make an appearance in BlogHer’s Master Class on Pinterest Best Practices?

As I’ve been explaining, BlogHer has created a three-part Master Class — for both brands and publishers — on making the most of Pinterest as a powerful new platform. Monday we covered why Pinterest is simply made for marketing. Tuesday we both shared best practices and did some myth-busting around using Pinterest.

In this third and last segment of the class, I shift gears from taking a marketing angle and explore best practices from the lens of a digital influencer seeking to get a leg up on building her nascent Pinterest empire. What results are best practices that benefit BOTH digital influencers and any brand marketer seeking to understand how to organically resonate with a relevant Pinterest audience.

Jill is what I call a “Pinterest Native.” She started blogging at the same time as she started pinning, meaning she didn’t have what we blogging natives might consider a bit of a retrofitting moment with our content, where we had to start thinking differently about how we posted. To Jill, posting is pinning, and everything she does is optimized for Pinterest. Just some simple shifts in thinking can help you generate considerable traction.

Jill shares some of her tips, and then the community asks questions that both Jill and Ahalogy Co-Founder Bob Gilbreath answer regarding techniques that work, how celebrity status translates on Pinterest, and common habits of the Pinterest user.
