BlogHer vs The 2012 Olympics

In August 2010, my twitter timeline literally exploded with people excited to be going to #BlogHer10.  My timeline continued to be littered with tweets, twitpics, links to blogposts about #BlogHer10. I saw lots of fun photos, and decided that I really wanted to go to the next #BlogHer event....more

Goal Setting

Right now there are people in San Francisco gearing up to go to BlogHer 2011. I'd be completely lying if I said I wasn't jealous. I've had my sights set on Blog Her for a little while now, but I don't think I'm a "big" enough blogger to attend. That plus the complete lack of funds to attend this year made it a no-brainer for me. I wasn't going anywhere! Never mind the fact that it is in San Fran, a place I've been wanting to visit for quite some time now. The point of the matter is that around this time next year I will be at Blog Her! So there!...more

On blogging: My BlogHer 2011 Strategy (and A Blogger Meet-Up at Candle 79)

I’ve been blogging at JL goes Vegan for over a year.  And shortly after the one year mark I launched a second blog, Stop Chasing Skinny.  Overachiever? Nope, I just discovered that I have two passions, though related (when I started eating compassionately I found myself able to be more compassionate with myself, and my body) they are distinct enough that they deserve their own space.  Blogging has become a creative outlet for me. It’s also become a way to learn....more

BlogHer '11 PreCon Preview: The Social Media Geek Track

Every year BlogHer gets its Geek on good, with programming to scratch the itch of those of us looking to learn -- or fine-tune -- what we need to know about what's "under the hood" of our blogs. The tools we can use to do our online media-making are proliferating like mad, and with so much capacity shifting to mobile, everyone with a smartphone is an “early adopter.” That's a both a gift and a challenge: so much you can do, but also so much to catch up on! This year, we’ve split the geeky goodness into two discrete days of programming in the Social Media Geek Track....more
Oh yuch. Sounds like BlogHer required unusual massive advance planning which I didn't do.more

Come see me at Geek Bar Friday 12:30-2pm

The BlogHer '11 Evening at the Expo: Don't Miss Giveaways and Goodies from our Sponsors

In a few short days we'll be seeing all of you in sunny San Diego for BlogHer ’11. This year we're introducing the first ever Evening at the Expo on Thursday August 4th from 6-8PM. We actually created this evening in response to the pleas of attendees who really wanted to check out the Expo, but didn't want to miss out on sessions to do so. So we created this two-hour slot when nothing else is going on, where our attention can be dedicated solely to checking out the almost 100 exhibitors! ...more

Conference Corner: What to Expect in Sessions

Every year BlogHer conference attendees ask what to expect during conference sessions. Sometimes because for many attendees, BlogHer is their first conference, but also because BlogHer events tend to be a little different than traditional conferences and seminars that many of our attendees have experienced. Our session format is typically very interactive, and our moderators hold different roles than some expect. Let me break it down: SESSION FORMAT...more
