I became aware of the Impostor Syndrome eight or nine years ago, when I was working for a failing start-up. Watching our staff whittle to half its size every few weeks was starting to take a toll on the remaining employees. I was grateful to still be working, but I wondered whether I should start looking into another job -- something more secure.
Hi everyone, We have exciting news: BlogHer's beloved hermoticon and logo are getting a new look this week. So is our tagline. Soon you'll see this logo and tagline on a brand-new BlogHer.com Web site. Voila!
I'd like to let this entry introduce myself; my blog name is Nick Pencils and I work at BlogHer as the Creative Director. That job means working on new and better ways to provide a great experience to you, my fellow community member.
Hi everyone, The BlogHer.com homepage has a clean, new look today, thanks in large part to terrific feedback from this community. After a year of launching new tools -- Chatter, Groups, LinkHer, FacebookConnect and more -- we are celebrating your requests for a simpler, well-lit place to get together. All the better to help readers harvest and share your voices! So, what do you think? We'd love your feedback in the comments below. (Stay tuned -- there's more to come.)Best,Lisafor Elisa, Jory and LisaBlogHer Co-founders
It wasn't until Day 365 of her year-long odyssey that Julie Powell of the omnipresent movie Julie & Julia tackled her feared nemesis, deboning a duck. Sarah of Sarah's Cucina Bella faced her own fear of bones. She lived to tell the story. Better still, she's moved her family closer to the food chain. Sarah can, and we can too.
August is a greedy month, it's hard to resist temptation at the farmers market, even the bulging produce bins at the grocery store. Some times, it's all too much, literally, and food goes to waste. The first rule of frugal homemaking? Waste not. Kathy Flake of the UK-based almost-vegan food blog Wednesday Food Blogging has a few tips for resetting our inner buying meters.
Ilva from the Italian food blog Lucullian Delights worries that she's sharing a recipe that 'everyone already knows'. But she takes the risk because she loves grilled vegetables so much. Don't we all?!! I'm willing to bet that her simple grilled eggplant, pepper and zucchini recipe will be new to many -- and destined to become a summertime favorite.
Julie from "Dinner with Julie" and her sister were at the beach, but being workaholics, decided to tackle a project. Turns out, it could be a money-saver. Turns out, it wasn't so much effort, just brewing coffee grounds in cold water in a jar on the countertop overnight, then adding cream and sipping all day long. The results? Julie's sold on cold-brewed coffee. Will it save a few trips to Starbucks and Tim Horton's? You bet!
Too hot to cook? No kidding. STILL. (How many more tomato-sandwich days until fall?) Drop that phone where "1" speeddials TakeOut, instead take a break and cook a healthy supper in just 10 minutes, thanks to inspiration from Emily of Joyful Abode.
I've loved having these great BlogHer Groups to join and interact in. I'm loving them even more now that there are brand new RSS feeds for each of them.
If you use a feedreader to follow your favorite content, you can add BlogHer Group feeds to your feedreader and be notified anytime a new forum post is created or a new piece of content is shared within that group.
Visit your favorite group (or groups) and click the orange RSS icon to grab the feed.
All the healthy eaters build leafy greens -- that's spinach and collards and kale and mustard greens and beet greens and and and -- into their diets, not once in awhile but every day, every single day. Katerina from the Vancouver food blog Daily Unadventures in Cooking happened onto an extra-easy way to cook greens, just four ingredients and 15 minutes from start to finish. The taste? "Excellent!" Click the headline for the quick recipe.
So who celebrated National Donut Day last week? It's a harmless little 'holiday', right, no card, no cooking required? So Amanda from the food blog Mrs W's Kitchen posted it on her Facebook page. Then a "friend" left a snarky response that just ticked. her. off -- blaming the donut for diabetes and obesity in America. Now Amanda is herself diabetic and she "gets" food, she knows what's good for you and why, what's not good for you and why not. Her impassioned response to a Facebook comment, well, you just have to read it yourself to understand.
