It's exciting to discover new blogs about travel -- there are so many different voices, so many styles of travel, so many ways to tell stories. It's always fun to take a spin through the travel blogs on BlogHer, to find new writers and meet new travelers. In case you're wondering what catches my eye, I'm always attracted to photos that capture a place, stories that take me there, and voices that sound real. On the practical side, I like information that's easy to navigate, authoritative, and fun to read.

I've just crawled through the winter additions to the BlogHer blogroll, and here are a few that caught my eye.

  • TheseBoots.Travel: Wandering in Canada: Olympics got you thinking that you should get yourself to Vancouver, stat? Act on that, pronto, and read up with Julie's shiny blog about traveling her home city and other place in the Great White North. I especially like the 24 Hour Tourist category that includes what to do on a rainy day in Van-City. Good stuff. British Columbia is just up the road and we go a few times a year -- it's nice to have a local resource for our neighbor city to the north.
  • Fool's Compass: There's an intense back story somewhere on this blog, but before I could unravel it, I got lost in this post about Goa in the off season. “You whiiiiite,” she said, drawing out the word. “You white like chicken!” She threw back her head and cackled. “How old are you?” she asked.  “33,” I said. “You look older!” Go read.
  • All Get Out! Family travel blogs are often about value for your dollar, which makes them a great resource for any traveler who's keeping an eye on their budget. All Get Out has lots of advice about stuff to do for free and is full of solid, common sense advice about bad weather, stuck in the airport scenarios, and kid focused gear.
  • Travel with Teens and Tweens: Speaking of family travel, here's a blog that's got adventures targeted at older kids. There are post about how to see Disney, what to do in New York City. I didn't dig deep enough to find out if there are posts targeted at dealing with your humorless emo/goth kid; all the pics on this blog show kids that seem game for anything. Fun.
  • Black Broad Abroad: Gorgeous photos of blue ice. A candid voice and, it seems, a big heart. I'd like to cross paths with this joyful traveler out in the world.
  • Ottsworld: I've been reading Ottsworld for a while now; it's one of my favorite blogs about travel and life in Southeast Asia. The photos are gorgeous, the writing, descriptive, and the locations oh so exotic. It's a personal favorite.
  • Nomadic Chick: "What you long for is escape – a way out.  Instead of working through lunch, spreadsheet configurations are replaced with computer research.  Viola, you hit pay dirt:Digital nomad. Location independent. Internet entrepreneur. What do these terms signify?  In my estimation, anything you wish." Bug out. Do it. DO IT!

There's lots more, see for yourself. Want to add your blog to the blogroll? Go here and fill out the form. I'll see it next time I do a review of the travel blogs.

Pam - thanks so much for including me with all of these great blogs!  I follow you on twitter and honestly never even knew you read my blog!  What a nice surprise with my morning coffee today!

I miss SE Asia a lot right now, as I"m in the US for a few months.  However I soothe my Asia fix by cooking rice every night!

I love seeing tourists being driven to my city. I honestly live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Go to Vancouver. Everyone.
