The Tourist Trap
It happens every time someone comes to town. I know it's coming--I
even verbally warned myself and my current round of company, though to
no avail. We fell, and we fell hard into the NYC tourist trap.
Everyone says the same thing when they arrive: we don't need to "do" very much. We came to see you. We'll be happy seeing your neighborhood, experiencing your way of life. Really. One or two New York-ie things will be just fine.
But the city, she can't leave us alone. It starts harmlessly, with a
little welcome-to-town wink, but the more we try to lay low and be
content, the more forward she gets. First, she shows a little leg. Upper West Side, anyone? A little You've Got Mail tour? Then she blows a kiss. Don't forget Central Park. Even on a rainy day like yesterday, she curls her little index finger in a perfect seductress summons. Grand Central Station will keep you dry.
