I became blogger almost 4 years ago and cannot say how happy I am for it. I am Mexican, and contrary to the English speaking blogosphere were women represent the majority, in the Spanish speaking blogosphere, we only represent 20% of the bloggers.
i realized this figure after blogging for a while. When i tried to find other women who blogged i discovered that outside of Mexico, Spain and Latin American more activity could be found, As I could not find a place where to share my interests and questions, I decided to create the place i wanted to participate in: Mujeres Construyendo. (It means women who create).
The challenge has been huge: not many women wanted to participate in the beginning. Many asked me:What can I say? Among the worst things I heard was: I have nothing to say! I couldn`t believe it. The question that came to my mind was: What happens to us women that we believe that our lives are so worthless that what we have to say can be ignored?
Today, more than 400 hundred women have their blogs in Mujeres Construyendo, and our community (Facebook, Twitter, Ning, LinkedIn) involve more than 4000 persons! This makes me so happy!
Mujeres Construyendo has grown, our presence is becoming stronger and we are becoming a reference in Mexico and Latin America of women's empowerment through the web. We were invited last mont to Santiago de Chile to attend the first Personal Democracy Forum for Latin America and the fact of becoming a place and the means to help empower women is JUST GREAT. There is still so much to do....but we will keep on working to further our impact and to help other Spanish speaking women express themselves.
