Menswear is back for Fall 2007, as are pretty, ladylike colors and silhouettes. Bringing them all together is the suit.

The modern suit balances classic menswear with a new, feminine edge. Consider pairing a cropped jacket with a fuller skirt, or a sheath dress and a swingy jacket. Look for traditional suiting fabrics--three-season wool or boucle--in more girly colors.

Who can wear the new suit? Virtually anyone, as long as you chose a style that fits your figure. The sheath dress works best on curvy hourglass figures or on bodies without curves. Either way, be sure the dress is tailored to fit your body properly.

If you are either heavier on top or on the bottom, the separates suit will be your best bet. A full skirt can camouflage a larger bottom half, and a properly fitted cropped jacket will emphasize your waist.

Not a suit girl? Think about how you can make the pieces of this fall's suiting work in your wardrobe. The sheath dress is a classic; wear it alone or with a sweater, with boots or pumps or flats. Pair a full skirt with a fitted tee or a boxy cardigan.

Think about how you can work the new suiting jackets into your closet as well. Both the swingy jacket and it's cropped counterpart look great with a long tee or tank and a slim bottom (jeans or trousers or a pencil skirt). While the cropped jacket is best for women with a well-defined waist line, the swingy jacket is incredibly versatile, because it flatters a range of figures AND hides a long list of flaws. If you are larger on top, look for a jacket with a low neckline and a slightly longer hem; if you are flat chested, look for large buttons and a more elaborate collar. Opt for three-quarter sleeves, with a bell-shape or some detailing (ruffle, buttons, embroidery).
