Trying to Keep Up With the Playoffs

BlogHer Original Post

I love post-season sports - all of them. That being said, I have a complaint. I would like to address this complaint to the NHL and the NBA. Since the playoffs are at the same time, I just can't keep up. This is not helping my inability to focus, nor is it allowing me to get anything done. There are multiple games almost every night. Even with picture in picture or those sports bars that have like 50 televisions I just can't watch all of the games

I am starting to get confused and overwhelmed.

The Washington Capitals are out. Yes, the #1 seed in the NHL Eastern Conference is out already.  For those of you that don't know me I live in the D.C. area and I have been known to rock the red. (That was totally for my husband's benefit. He loathes that phrase.) Since I am heartbroken about this, and I cannot be objective when it comes to Caps hockey or the theory that the Montreal goalie, Halak, may or may not be a robot ninja, I will let Terri tell you what happened:

That is the best way to describe what happened last night at the Verizon Center in Washington DC.  The biggest upset in NHL history.  The #1 seed Washington Capitals "Choked" and lost against the #8 seed Montreal Canadiens, sending them off as a winner of the first round of the Eastern Conference quarter finals.  The Caps are the FIRST team in NHL history to blow a 3 - 1 lead in the series to a #8 seed team.

Detroit Red Wings v San Jose Sharks - Game Two

I'll be over here weeping. Of course in the semi-final round the Pittsburgh Penguins can score on Halak just fine, and their series is now tied at one game a piece.

As for the rest of the NHL playoff picture, San Jose is leading Detroit 2 - 0 in the series, The Boston Bruins won the first two games against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Vancouver Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks have tied their series at one win each.

See? There is a lot going on and we haven't even touched on basketball yet.

The NBA is also on their second round of playoffs. Thankfully in basketball my team is still in it. Right, clearly I am not a Washington Wizards fan, yes, I live here but I have not transferred my basketball allegiance away from the team that I watched when I learned to love the NBA in college. The Orlando Magic. My new favorite basketball prognosticator, Shannon, is predicting that The Magic will win this series in four games. I like the way she thinks.

Would you like to see her other picks?

This should be by far the best and most exhilarating second round series. The Celtics, one of the best defensive teams coached by I think the best NBA coach, are hungry to prove that last year wasn’t a tale of washed up old men and that with KG they are good as new. And the Cavs… well they just can’t lose period, which is why I think they will win. And if they do lose, breakup that whole damn team because there is no hope. My Predictions: Cavs in 5 at home

...the matchup between these two (where the Spurs broke Nash’s nose) was some of the most fun I’ve ever had watching ball. These two teams remind me of Woody and Buzz from Toy Story, I don’t know which one I’d rather play with and I really don’t want to see either put out on the curb.

But my prediction: Spurs backline is going to be too much of a problem on both ends, Spurs win on the road in 7 A repeat of the first round series last year.

Most basketball fans love the Jazz because even though they are not winners you never really see them play like losers. But still, this team just doesn’t inspire NBA Champion faith so I’m gonna say Los Angeles handled Utah in 5 games last year, and I think the Lakers will win the series 4-1 again.

Those Girls are Wild

I pretty much agree with Shannon, except I think the Lakers series will go to six games. I think we are pretty much caught up, but of course everything will be different tomorrow with four more games tonight.

A sports fan's work is never done.
