Tuning Out: I Kinda Did
Part of the reason for my absence in the blogosphere the last few months is writer's block, but another thing I've been doing is tuning out. Not a lot, just baby steps. I've only opened Twitter a handful of times in the last 2 months.
Let me say this: I freaking LOVE Twitter. I get up to the second breaking news and weather stories, awesome links about exciting new technical products, how-to's on photography, beautiful stunningly gorgeous photographs from all over the world. I love reading the jokes from Steve Martin and Somer Canon (@somerM).
But I was obsessed. Twitter took so much of my time. So much "eye's down" time. So much "disengaging" with living breathing humans right in front of me. I decided to just give Twitter a break. I've not quit for heaven's sake, I love it too much. But for now, I'll just stick to now and then peeks… and posts from my Instagram will keep showing up (sorry about that).
Because I've rediscovered reading. Let me clarify: reading books. Heck, I have been so busy reading, I don't even take the time to write reviews! I just hastily rate them by stars, and move on to the next book.
Then February came and someone I love but have never met recommended Justin Cronin's The Passage. I was sucked in immediately. Then a friend said: "Someone told me it get's a little dragged out" and I'm not sure if it was subliminal or what but from that point forth the entire book dragged on forevah holy cow. I think I gave it 3 stars, but that was a stretch.
I have to stop dwelling on the fact that The Passage hogged so much of my reading time in February. I did read The Graveyard Book, Hopeless, and a Good American since then and they all were excellent reads. I'm reading Born Wicked now, and I really need to head to the sunroom and jump into it.
So yeah, I tuned out a bit. Rediscovering reading has been so soul filling and uplifting. I'm still lurking about now and then on Twitter and BlogHer and I will probably jump back in with both feet as BlogHer13 nears (it's only 4 months away!!).
And I promise to catch up with you all this week. Today is a snow/laundry day (if Michael remembered to take his basket to the laundry room) so being snowed in is a good thing.
Speaking of which: All you Facebook loves…thank you so much for all the likes yesterday. By 1 pm, Michael had said, "you can sleep over at Nikki's house tonight" and by then I had at least 38 likes and he didn't even see the post! Nikki and I did decide though that since we have husbands to take into consideration, probably a sleepover wouldn't work. So I'm snowed in and my fingers need exercise because of this weather system.
