Turkey Legs & Ferris Wheels: Our Trip to the State Fair
I wanted to share some pictures and tell you about our trip to the Texas State Fair. My boyfriend had bought me tickets for my birthday to the Lion King musical by the original Broadway cast. It. was. awesome. If you’ve never heard of it, check out the YouTube video, now! Our musical tickets got us free admission to the fair, so we decided to make a day out of it.
Yes, friends, these are REAL baby animals! The baby giraffe was so adorable I almost walked right out of there with him. Children’s Medical Center of Dallas put together a baby animal barn. I think it’s supposed to be for little kids but I enjoyed it just as much…
This is me by a replica of Big Tex’s boot, and us by the *new* Big Tex. I think he looks just fine, but people are saying he looks scarier than the last one. He looked goofy before, he looks goofy now.
I will tell you the truth: I am terrified of heights. I don’t do heights. I’d rather stay on the ground where my feet can stay firmly on the ground. I don’t do roller coasters or water slides or zip lining through the Jamaican rainforests.
But alas, I was talked into riding the Ferris Wheel because I was told “It won’t be that bad!”, and the promise that he’d buy me cotton candy.
You see, we look cute in this picture, but under my giant sunglasses I am shedding a tiny, terrified tear. I guess the view wasn’t that bad.
Ah, back on the ground! And with my precious cotton candy. I ate the whole bag myself. To the right is Nick trying to win me a little stuffed Giraffe.
Now to the food! To the left here is Nick with a giant deep-fried turkey leg that cost $10. He loved it, but I thought it was pretty nasty. It seemed like every bite you ate had a giant piece of fat on it. In the middle picture is heaven: a GIANT mozzarella cheese stick deep-fried on a stick. It was delicious… I almost at the whole thing but started to feel a little sick towards the end. On the right was an Oreo cake ball that Nick said was the “best thing he’s tasted in a while”.
We also ate some “Dollar Dogs”, sweet tea, and fresh limeade. But don’t fret… Apparently we walked almost twelve miles that day. It’s all about balance…
This is us walking back to our car after the show, gushing about how awesome it was and how when we have kids we’re going to train them to not talk during musicals. Lion King was indescribable. The costumes were so intricate and well-designed, the stage props were fantastic, the singing and acting phenomenal… what a great birthday present!
Did you go to the fair this year? What foods did you try?
