Turkish breakfast

I looove breakfast! :)

But my husband loves it more than me, especially when I prepare it in his country’s style, which of course happens a lot, especially in the week-ends.

I will describe it according to my knowledge, which is not so limited, even if not born there, I always say ” I’m almost Turkish!” :)

From the health point of view, this is one of the most nutritious ways you can start your day.

The first most important thing about this type of breakfast is the tea. The Turkish tea is more than a tradition for Turkish people, and I will make a post especially about it, so keep tuning in. ;)

The tea is a must, it’s black tea and it has to be drank during the meal in small glasses.

The main ingredients of a good Turkish breakfast are cheese, butter, olives, tomato or cucumber salad, honey, different types of jam, kaymak ( a milk specialty) and eggs, cooked in different ways.

There are many types of Turkish cheese, called peynir, and I recommend you to try them all. :)Generally in the breakfast people are having beyaz peynir (sheep cheese ) and Tulum peynir (goat cheese).

I will share with you some photos of our Turkish breakfast, today I cooked the eggs in one of the best ways I know, called menemen. photo 3

Menemen is delicious and simple to make, I will share the recipe with you also, so you can cook it in your own home.

The necessary ingredients for 2 person are :

- 3 tomatoes

- 1 onion medium

- 2- 3 green peppers not very spicy

- 8 tbspoones olive oil

- 4 eggs

- salt, pepper, chili flakes, mint

The tomatoes(peeled), peppers, and onion ( you can cook it without onion also, if you don’t like the taste) should be chopped in very small pieces. Starting with the onion, if you use, if not directly cook the peppers until soft and then add the tomatoes in a pan with olive oil, the cooking type. The original recipe uses butter instead of olive oil for the cooking, I am using olive oil to cook more in the Mediterranean way, but you can do according to your taste. After the tomatoes, peppers and onion are cooked you should add the eggs, whole, and mix them in the pan with a wooden spoon. Let all the ingredients cook for 1-2 minutes, until the eggs are done but please keep in mind that the menemen  should be runny, not dry. After, take it out of the stove, and add fresh pepper, mint and chili flakes (pul biber in turkish) according to your taste.

If you have any questions, please ask, I would be happy to answer! :)
