To Unplug? Or not to unplug?
By ClimbOutCubicle on July 16, 2014
I got caught in a freak downpour yesterday and my phone – which was safely hidden in my purse – got wet and died. She had a nice rice spa before I officially gave up on her and returned her to Best Buy to cash in on my Geek Squad protection.
Overall, I did not have a phone from 5pm last night until 12pm this afternoon. I’m practically Laura Ingles Wilder. I have learned one lesson from all of this:
I DO NOT WANT TO UNPLUG!!!
I know everyone says you should take time away from electronics and catch your breath. They say you shouldn’t sleep with your phone too. I know people who purposely turn off their phones for the weekend, even if they are at home. (If you are camping or out of the country, I understand turning it off, but if you are at home watching TV, I don’t understand.) I also know people who leave their phone in a different room when they sleep.
I do not understand these people.
Those terrible 19 hours have really shown me that I *want* to connect. I want to communicate with people. I want to check social media constantly. I want my phone to be in bed with me. I want email and text to be at my fingertips at all times. I want instant communication.
Maybe it’s my extroverted ways….maybe it’s because I’m an ambitious entrepreneur….maybe it’s because I fear missing out on something. Whatever it is, it’s important for me to connect.
By noon today, I had an old phone reactivated. I paid $150 to have a new refurbished phone sent to the store on Friday. My old phone is slow and bulky, but I’m connected again.
And, for me, that’s all that matters.
Do you need to connect? Or would you rather Let me know in the comments!
