Update Your Wardrobe: The Pencil Skirt

Syndicated

We've all been there. We look in our closet and complain "I have nothing to wear!" I've been known to do the same, and I have a fair amount of clothing. The main thing to remember is that you have clothes, and you can work with that. You can always get things tailored and altered, or you can purchase new items that are inexpensive to inject a little energy into your tired wardrobe. Case in point today: add a brightly colored skirt to your wardrobe rotation. I prefer a pencil skirt, because it is a classic silhouette and pretty flattering on most body types. When attempting to update your wardrobe, stick with classics, just add a little twist.  Let's look at some options:

When all else fails, go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx and check out which designer names they have discounted. There aren't as many sizes as you'd find in a department store, but still they are both full of options. Also, head into Banana Republic and Ann Taylor and check out the sale racks. That's where I found this beauty:

Go find yourself one colorful (not black) pencil skirt and pair it with either a button up dress shirt and a statement necklace or put on a white t-shirt and throw a blazer over it. It's polished, but with a bit of a stylish edge.

I promise there are ways to update your wardrobe and I'll try to include one a week for those of you looking to overhaul your style. It's really not about an ENTIRE new wardrobe -- it's about carefully choosing great pieces that you can incorporate into your EXISTING wardrobe to kick it up a few notches.

Hope this helps!

XO, Adriele
