Upon what do you choose to focus?

When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

- Alexander Graham Bell

Upon what are you focusing your attention?  When in the midst of a difficult situation like divorce, it is easy to focus all our attention on the conflict, pain and struggle.  You can become so focused on the negative that you develop tunnel vision.  If you were only to turn around, broaden your scope of vision, you might actually see the opportunities.

When I was getting divorced, I was encouraged to shift my attention, to create a broader perspective.  Suddenly I could see angels placed in my path, gifts left on my proverbial doorstep; opportunities for growth and a new beginning.  What would you see if you broadened your field of vision?  What is right there before you that you are missing due to your concentrated focus on the problem?

Challenge yourself. Look at your situation from a different perspective.  What opportunities has your divorce offered you? Are you learning to speak up or take care of yourself or be more attentive to your children’s needs or keep a closer watch on your budget?  Have you become a stronger or better person; have your become more spiritual; have you reconnected with friends and family that you had previously isolated from?

The gifts are plentiful, if only you would dare to look for them.

Tell us what you have learned, how you have grown, who has come into your life or how your have changed as a parent, friend or person.  We want to hear your story.
