  1. From HBO to PBS: What's Coming Up on TV this Spring

    Game of Thrones (HBO)

The holidays are over and that means so are the doldrums of television. Finally, we TV addicts will get new episodes of favorite shows and premieres of a whole crop of new shows. And as your intrepid TV watcher, I'm here to tell you about the shows I'll be excited to see debut on my flat screen.  Read more >

  2. A Thanksgiving Treat: Macy's Parade Balloons Up Close

Macy's Thanksgiving parade - Julius Monkey balloon

Last night I did something I’ve always wanted to do. That’s head over to Central Park West around 79th Street the night before Thanksgiving and watch as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons are inflated. I’d never done it before and I felt like a kid seeing Kermit the Frog and all the rest of my favorites.  Read more >

  3. In Wake Of Brett Ratners Resignation, Eddie Murphy Drops Oscar Hosting Gig

Like many movie fans, I was pretty jazzed when the Academy announced that Eddie Murphy was going to host the 84th annual Oscar telecast in 2012.  Let's face it Eddie deserved the gig 'cause:1. He's made Hollywood a fortune with movies like, "Beverly Hills Cop," "48 Hours," and "Shrek."2. He was robbed, cheated, and rooked with a capital "R" out of that Best Supporting Actor statue for his first class turn in the film "Dreamgirls."3.  He can be incredibly funny.  Read more >

  4. "Revenge" and "Ringer": Similar Shows, Solid Entertainment

    Sarah Michelle Gellar: Ringer

Two new fall TV dramas, Revenge and Ringer, have become regular fixtures in my TV viewing calendar. And since both have been landing solid ratings each week, I was glad to hear they've each been picked up for full seasons.Image Courtesy: CW  Read more >

  5. NBC's "The Playboy Club:" Save Your Outrage

    The Playboy Club

  6. "The Addams Family" Musical: A Ghoulish Hoot

Brooke Shields and Roger Rees in The Addams Family on Broadway

I won’t lie to you, the Broadway musical The Addams Family wasn’t at the top of my list of shows to see.I was a Munsters fan.But after seeing the show last week, with its first rate cast and “let’s not take ourselves too seriously” attitude, I have to say, I had a ghoulishly good time.  Read more >

  7. The Beach Trees: Secrets and Lies in Post-Katrina NOLA

The Beach Trees by Karen White begins with these marvelous two sentences: “Death and loss, they plague you. So do memories.” With those few words, White had my attention. She then kept it as she introduced Julie Holt, a woman with a tragic past and an uncertain future. I loved this book. It works as a mystery, it works as a love story and it also works as the story of a people and a culture, still trying to rebuild after the devastation that was Hurricane Katrina.  Read more >

  8. Big Emmy Nominees: "Mildred Pierce," "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men"

    Mare Winningham in Mildred Pierce

Mildred Pierce, Boardwalk Empire and my personal favorite, Game of Thrones, did very well when the primetime Emmy nominations were announced this morning. So did Mad Men, The Good Wife, Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. Mildred Pierce Courtesy of HBO Here are the top categories: Best Drama Dexter  Read more >

  10. "Game of Thrones" Plays for Keeps (**Major Spoilers**)

Sean Bean in Game of Thrones

After Sunday night's episode of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Twitter and Facebook lit up with the outrage of faithful viewers because the main character, Lord Eddard Stark (Sean Bean, pictured below), a man of truth and honor, was summarily beheaded at the whim of a petulant and illegitimate, teen king, Joffrey Lannister.I was watching the Tony Awards and didn't get to see "Game of Thrones" until a repeat showing later in the evening and luckily didn't read any spoilers.Good thing too, because I loved it!  Read more >
