  1. A Mama's Prayer for Summer Camp

A prayer for my dear son embarking on his second year at summer camp... May you find learning and growth of all kinds. May you gain independence and feel comfort in your Jewish identity. May the mosquitoes be guided away from you, and may the raindrops not fall into your tent (too much). May the food be delicious and the pool the right temperature. May you seek out new experiences and try new things (vegetables would be nice but I'm doubtful).  Read more >

  2. Cleaning out the Chametz and Clutter

I know many of my very Orthodox readers (and even some of the less practicing folks) are going to cringe at what I'm about to say: I'm so excited to start getting ready for Passover!  Read more >

  3. Prayer for the Economy?

Can you pray for a bailout? In today's New York Times article about Detroit churches praying for a bailout:The S.U.V.’s on the stage, a Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Escape and Chrysler Aspen on loan from local dealerships, were all gas-electric hybrids, and Bishop Ellis urged worshipers to combat the region’s woes by mixing hope with faith in God. 4. Take the (Carrot) Cake

Her 7-year-old son came up behind her and whispered (loudly), "Take the cake, mom!" I delivered it on her birthday! Even kids like this carrot cake.  Read more >

  5. Thanksgiving Family Ritual

Thanksgiving is a time filled with traditions for so many of us. These traditions tend to center around food. What we eat and who makes it are keys in any family, aren't they? If my grandmother doesn't make the pumpkin pie, then I don't really care to eat it.  But we often forget about the other parts of the holiday of Thanksgiving, its very name. Creating an atmosphere of gratitutde can be tricky when we're juggling gravy and trying to keep the 3 year old from pulling the tablecloth off the table.  Read more >

  7. Immersing in the Holidays - A Trip to the Mikveh

Have you ever wondered how it works to go to the mikveh, the Jewish ritual bath? And why would someone want to do this? As I prepare for the Jewish New Year, I decided that an immersion would be the best antidote to the busy-ness of these days...
