  2. DWTS

The thing I like: No obvious ringers. No figure skaters or gymnasts, no refugees from a dance-oriented boy (or girl) band. If you look at the winners of the first few years of DWtS, they were underdogs or unexpected. In the last few years, you could have predicted the finals from the beginning. Now it's not so clear. That won't stop me from predicting, but it's not based on existing skills and advantages.  Read more

  3. Project Runway Top 12 (image courtesy Lifetime)

And you know that isn't usually pretty, right? Actually this week the team challenge didn't seem to bring out as much drama as they usually do. One big diva, one designer who got picked on, one backpedaling, two-faced beeyotch. I know that might sound like a lot, but usually it's all twelve who would be engaging in such antics!! of course the episode came with an unexpected twist ending which brought all the drama and drama-seeking viewer could ever want!! You'll just have to stay tuned and find out.  Read more

  4. Gwenn Liberty Seemel

Every day on BlogHer.com and across the blogs in the network, and every year in many sessions at the BlogHer Conference, the conversation inevitably turns to who we are, who we want to be, who we ought to be and who we're perceived to be...and how those all align or conflict. For example, here's my eternal query: Can't I like cute shoes and political discourse...openly, even simultaneously?  Read more

  5. Tim Gunn, "Project Runway" (Image courtesy Lifetime)

No, really, hats off, please, because most of their outfits didn't do the hats justice! This week was a pretty fantabulous opportunity for the designers to show off their most conceptual, high-fashion proclivities, as they were each paired up with a model wearing a big, bold Philip Treacy hat. These hats made statements. Being a SF Bay Area native, I kept wondering when that gal with the city of San Francisco on her head (from Beach Blanket Babylon) was going to show up.  Read more

  6. Project Runway: Gretchen at the Party Store (Barbara Nitke / Lifetime Television

This week the designers were sent to a party, or rather a party store. Yes, this was one of those challenges revolving around making designs out of unconventional materials. In this case, things you could buy in a party store. Tim warned the designers that the judges wouldn't like them just picking up materials that could act like traditional fabrics (i.e. tablecloths) but most of them gravitated to things like napkins, ribbon, tablecloths anyway. So, what did we learn in this episode?  Read more

  7. So You Think You Can Dance Finalists (Frank Micelotta/FOX)

I've got my pick. Who's yours? This is it, dance fans: The finale of finales. Our last chance to analyze the wonder that is So You Think You Can Dance, and all that comes with it. Cat's outfits (and her stance). Mia's squinty smiles. Nigel's occasional inappropriate Krump demonstrations, Adam's propensity for hyperbole and, oh yeah, the dancing. With perhaps the most talented bunch of finalists yet, last night's finale did not disappoint. Lots of good dancing...which will lead to lots of nitpicking on my part, just to have something to write about.  Read more

  8. Tim Gunn in Project Runway

Here we go, here we go, here we go! And we are still in New York City, FTW!!! Listen, Papa Gunn said NYC was the place to be. One must need always listen to Papa Gunn. Including when he tells you that wearing a teeny fedora makes you look lame. Image courtesy Lifetime OK, let me pull myself together from slightly incoherent, but obviously jubilant, ramblings about the start of Season 8 of Project Runway, and actually recap the premiere 90-minute Project Runway opener.  Read more

  9. Billy Bell and Ade in FOX's So You Think You Can Dance

And at this point, I'm sad to see any of them go, how about you? But first things first: How was Cat's dress this week? Answer. Um, better. Although admittedly, that's not saying much. It was a one-shouldered, snakeskinny pattern, and when she wasn't doing that weird one-hip-jutting-out-at-an-impossible-angle stance, she looked good. Good. Now that we've cleared that up, on with the show.  Read more

  10. BlogHer Conferences 2010

When planning the first BlogHer conference back in mid-2005, we knew we wanted our session format to be a bit different than the conference norms at the time. Interactive. Engaging. Participatory. Practical. And no shilling (aka commercials or stump speeches masquerading as usable content and actionable information). We enlisted the help of a volunteer to draft our initial Speaker Guidelines and then worked with a volunteer committee to fine tune them.   Read more
