  1. And at this point, I'm sad to see any of them go, how about you? But first things first: How was Cat's dress this week? Answer. Um, better. Although admittedly, that's not saying much. It was a one-shouldered, snakeskinny pattern, and when she wasn't doing that weird one-hip-jutting-out-at-an-impossible-angle stance, she looked good. Good. Now that we've cleared that up, on with the show.  Read more

  2. When planning the first BlogHer conference back in mid-2005, we knew we wanted our session format to be a bit different than the conference norms at the time. Interactive. Engaging. Participatory. Practical. And no shilling (aka commercials or stump speeches masquerading as usable content and actionable information). We enlisted the help of a volunteer to draft our initial Speaker Guidelines and then worked with a volunteer committee to fine tune them.   Read more

  3. Last week BlogHer featured a post on how to recognize the signs when someone is drowning in water. A wake-up call for many I've talked to (and for me) that we don't always know the signs. This week, we were completely drawn in as Bon from crib chronicles delved into the signs of an entirely different kind of drowning in her post "at the red light".  Read more

  4. And we have one other serious topic to address! Can we talk? I think it's time. I've been sitting idly by, hoping that So You Think You Can Dance would solve its problems on its own, but clearly that's not happening. It's time for an intervention. Oh, no no no. I'm not talking about the rash of injuries on the show. First Alex, then Ashley, now Billy Bell. No. I'm talking about host Cat Deeley's wardrobe. Because every time she was on screen last night I simply could not stop myself. I had to say out loud: What. the. HELL????  Read more

  5. Today we are pleased and proud to announce the 2010 BlogHer Voices of the Year!  Read more

  6. Oh noes! Dancing has apparently gotten more dangerous. Like last week, this week started off with me turning to my viewing companion and saying: "Hey, I thought this was the Top [fill in the number]. Why are there only [fill in the number, minus one] dancers on the floor?" Yes, another week, another dancer down ... this time, Ashley. With a rib injury. Unlike Alex last week, she wasn't in the audience, and they didn't talk about potential prognoses. Which doesn't sound good.  Read more

  7. Last week we kicked off the pre-BlogHer '10 Meet-Up series with a wonderful evening in New York City. But never fear, we have eight more meet-ups to announce, in cities all over North America!  Read more

  8. Lots of drama last night, and apparently lots of controversy ensued. And. Oh yeah. Good dancing. The first thing host Cat Deeley springs on us is that fan and judge favorite Alex Wong is injured. And by all accounts, it sounds not good at all. They're hoping against hope he makes it back for next week, but in the meantime he's automatically in the bottom three this week -- and eliminated if he can't dance next week. And unlike American Idol, you can't exactly say, "Oh he'll be fine, he's gotten his break he can get a recording contract," etc. The dance world isn't quite the same.  Read more

  9. Last week, the Pew Research Center released a new report indicating that childlessness among women in the U.S. has risen notably over the last 30 years or so.  Read more

  10. This holiday weekend I got a little bit of what I suspect some of the rest of you did too: Talking to friends and family who just don't "get" blogging, let alone Twitter, Facebook and the like. Their questions go something like this: "Why?" "WHY?" And "who has the time?" And "who cares what anybody had for lunch?"  Read more
