  1. "Hookers" Fight Cancer: Share A Square 2010 Works For Quality

Share a Square 2010 Afghan Square

The folks at the Post Office are wondering about the packages that I juggle as I leave each day. They have no idea that inside are lovely crocheted squares (6' x 6') from around the world that will be made into afghans for children at a cancer camp next summer.  We did this before in 2008; "hookers" united from across the world to make 150 afghans for the children of Camp Sanguinity.  So far this year 1,413 squares have arrived for Share A Square 2010 (a little more than a tenth of what will eventually be joined together).  We need more!  Read more >

  2. I don’t know about y’all, but at my house, the word “google” quickly became a verb.  If I look for something on the Internet, I “google it;”  it doesn’t matter which search engine I use.  Since I've found GoodSearch, I may have to find a new verb.  Google, Yahoo, or Bing have been my search engines of choice for a long time.  Since I discovered GoodSearch I've decided it’s what I’m going to use until eternity.  Read more >

  3. Amazed at the number of available ringtones for my cell phone, I still didn't change many of them. I wouldn't be able to keep up with who was calling, because I don't have a very good memory.  Read more >

  4. Oh, Baby! Those shower invitations have changed!

An invitation for a baby shower came in the mail, and I was a bit taken aback when I opened it.  This wasn't the pastel, cutesy Hallmark card that I expected.  It was a photograph which seemed to be just a dark mass ... a brown blob.  Closer inspection made me realize that it was a copy of an ultrasound and I was eyeing an embryo.  I'm still not sure how I feel about that.  Is that the trend these days?   Read more >

  5. I know it is time for an election when my land-line starts ringing off the wall.  My husband, bless his heart, registered as a voter with the other political party, and they call our house night and day.  Read more >

  6. Did you know that if you have a Facebook or Twitter account it might soon cost you big bucks on your home insurance?  That was the story on my nightly news, so I looked it up on-line.  At Confused.com, the story goes that  Read more >

  7. I don't buy many magazines at the grocery store anymore, but ShopSmart Magazine caught my eye.  I may have to subscribe to it on-line!  One of the featured articles was titled "10 Products That Changed Our Lives."  I'll bite.  Inquiring minds want to know.  So, I snapped it up to see what other women thought.  Read more >

  8. Does anyone remember that catch phrase from Rowan and Martin’s “Laugh-In”:  “Look that up in your Funk and Wagnall?”  Do you even know what a “Funk and Wagnall” is?  Who am I kidding, you don’t even remember “Laugh-In,” do you?  Read more >

  9. The Sisterhood of The Grappling Pants

We all have that one pair of jeans that we just love. You know the ones --- they make our butts look really good, but they are just a smidge too tight. One has to grapple to fit into these jeans. To put them on, first you have to do that Blue Jeans Jig -- the one where you dance and hop around the room, slightly resembling a chicken with its head cut off, while you try to pull the jeans over the mountains that your thighs have become. You shuffle and cavort while you force yourself into these blue jeans.  Read more >

  10. Proof That the World Is Not Full of Hate

As I rummaged around the office, I came across a colorful crocheted granny square that was left over from a project that was coordinated on my blog two years ago. I sat down and cried. Don't worry, they were tears of joy ... I was remembering the hundreds of people with hearts full of love who helped me realize a dream.  Read more >

About Me:

Blogging was supposed to be a cure for my addiction to playing on-line mahjongg.  Instead, it became a new addiction!

I'm a 5th generation Texan (though I don't brag about it much), and I "spin yarns" both literally and figuratively. The kids are grown and scattered across the country, so my husband and I find ourselves in an empty nest.  It's not really "empty," because we are confirmed packrats, and are the domestic servants to five"fe-lions."

Come join me at This Eclectic Life, where I talk about the things I love: vintage shopping, reading, traveling through Texas (and beyond), bacon, and whatever comes into my head at 4:30 in the morning.
