  8. Children and holidays

As children of a different generation, it was our responsibility to get through our holiday homework and find ways of amusing ourselves, preferably at a distance from the adults. We spent afternoons searching for dead adders at the bottom of our neighbour’s garden, or stealing cherries from his trees.
